Job DescriptionThe Certified Nurse Anesthetist prepares prescribed solutions and administers anesthetic following specified methods and procedures. Informs physician of patient's condition during anesthesia. Performs pre- and post-anesthesia patient visits and documents anesthesia notes on patient records. Relies on education, experience, professional training and judgment to accomplish responsibilities. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Works under minimal supervision. May lead and direct the work of others.
Responsibilities- Uses appropriate internal and external resources to resolve, meet or exceed patient and family health care needs
- Demonstrates competence and accuracy in all work tasks, including those directly and indirectly related to patient care, consistently providing nursing care according to physicians orders and in conformance to established standards of care and administrative policies and procedures;
- Demonstrates proficiency in the referral process and use of multidisciplinary resources to meet patient needs; maintains, at all times, appropriate channels of communication and harmonious relations with other healthcare providers;
- Demonstrates a knowledge of corporate policies regarding fire and safety, handling hazardous materials (if applicable) and infection control
- Participates and contributes to the Quality Assurance and Infection Control Program, as appropriate
- Establishes system for coordinating patient cares throughout the cycle prior to, during and after experiencing surgery.
- Establishes methods for tracking patients progress through the system.
- Consistently demonstrates the ability to assess a situation, consider the alternative and properly choose appropriate course of action.
- Works in compliance with and under the direction of the supervising physician and anesthesiologist
- Collaborates with local physicians in evaluating, diagnosing, clinically monitoring and managing patients
- Participates in development of clinical paths for surgery patients (inpatient and clinic) and establishes outcomes collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, which includes pre op visits, inpatient care and inpatient followup.
- Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team in continual development implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive plan for patients
- Provides management for patient outcomes including collection of history data, physician assessment and ongoing assessment of response to therapy
- Writes orders on physician order form for laboratory work, medications and treatment
- Provides phone triage for patient concerns, documents information, and follows through with concerns.
- Analyzes patterns of variance from the patient outcomes and implements strategies to resolve them
- Explores strategies to reduce length of stay and resource consumption
- Has a holistic view of the patient by acknowledging all aspects of patient/familys emotional, physical and socioeconomic needs
- Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating standards of care, standards of practice, and protocol for patients.
- Promotes educational programs and material for patients families, nursing and allied health professionals.
- Participates and facilitates research protocols for patients
- Displays good problem-solving skills and takes responsibility for improving technical skills, critical thinking and interpersonal relationship skills
- Communicates and collaborates with physicians, nurses and other multidisciplinary team members involved in the care of patients.
- Acts as patient advocate constantly monitoring, tracking, assessing and evaluating quality of care
- Promotes communication with referring physicians and the entire team regarding plan of care
- Promotes professional development of the team.

Training - Master's Degree in Nursing or DNP
Special Skills
-Proficient in Ultrasound Guided Regional Anesthesia, epidural blocks, subarachnoid blocks, and central venous access.
