Furniture Research & Development Manager

The Furniture Research and Development (R&D) Manager role is ideal for a strong, hands‑on professional who can act as a think tank for new design development, mentor and inspire the team, and effectively bridge product innovation with manufacturing execution. Working onsite, the position will lead the R&D function, establish design standards, and shape short‑term and long‑term product development priorities.

• Lead and mentor the company’s R&D team
• Direct new product design initiatives and bridge product innovation with manufacturing execution
• Develop detailed specifications and stay up to date with the latest design, materials, and industry developments
• Establish design standards and guidelines to ensure high‑quality products
• Review engineering drawings and construction‑ready documents
• Create short‑term and long‑term R&D roadmaps
• Manage priorities and decision‑making on buy‑or‑create strategies aligned with factory capacity

• Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Product Design, Architecture, or a related field
• Minimum 7 years of experience in custom furniture manufacturing
• Strong background in R&D, product development, or Product Design Engineering (PDE)
• Experience creating new furniture designs, with a keen understanding of industry trends, particularly in sofa design
• Solid understanding of materials, including wood and metal, as well as production processes, manufacturing flow, and costing structures such as bills of materials and bills of quantities
• Proven leadership experience managing large teams of approximately 25–30 people
