Overview

Under the supervision of the Sustainable Landscape Management Scientist, the Spatial Planning Specialist will lead the end-to-end implementation Indonesia Country Program activity related to spatial planning for sustainable landscape management—ranging from conceptualization and contextualization to the development and delivery of trainings, awareness sessions, and public consultation processes. The position will also be responsible for developing supporting informational materials—both in print and digital formats—to reinforce capacity, strengthening outcomes and broadening the reach of activities.

In addition, the position will oversee knowledge management and information‑sharing processes related to spatial planning, ensuring that lessons learned and best practices are systematically captured, documented, and disseminated. The Spatial Planning Specialist is also expected to coordinate and lead relevant research project within Indonesia Country Program. From time to time, she/he will be also expected to contribute to developing research proposals and resource mobilization.

Job Description Research Activity Implementation
  • Work closely with a team of remote sensing, Geographic Information System (GIS), natural resource tool developer, modeler and social scientists in conceptualization, designing and conducting studies on green growth, climate change mitigation and adaptation policies and inclusive, integrated and informed land use planning for multiple environmental services such as carbon storage, watershed protection, biodiversity maintenance.
  • Implement appropriate tools for land use planning for multiple environmental services, including trade‑off analysis.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team in producing, preparing and analyzing high‑quality spatial and socio‑economic data necessary to inform land use planning for multiple environmental services.
  • Contribute to development of tools, concepts, analysis, and lessons learned from the study, and to technical project report writing.
  • Collect, compile, and conduct data cleaning for spatial and non‑spatial data in connection with the land use planning process at the provincial and district levels through interviews, FGDs, workshops, and other activities.
  • Facilitate collaboration with the local government and local stakeholders in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the local land use planning process.
  • Engage with government and non‑government at the province and district levels on many topics, including RTRW, RPJM, KPLS, RPPLH, Social Forestry, Green Growth, TOR, and other RAD GRK, RAD AP, SDG, and other local development initiatives.
Capacity Strengthening and Engagement
  • Continuously develop, review, and update capacity‑strengthening materials for land use planning and sustainable landscape management to ensure they remain relevant, technically sound, and responsive to evolving programmatic needs.
  • Lead knowledge‑management components of capacity strengthening for land use planning and sustainable landscape management: document lessons learned, collect promising practices, and maintain knowledge products for use across research projects.
  • Provide technical leadership and operational support in the conceptualization, design and implementation of capacity‑strengthening initiatives for partners and relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with technical teams and external parties to ensure quality, relevance, and innovation in training materials and delivery formats.
  • Design and deliver external training sessions, technical workshops, peer learning events, conferences, round tables, and study visits for national and local stakeholders, including public institutions and civil society.
Project Coordination and Resource Mobilization
  • Lead bilateral projects and ensure proper project resources management (staff, assets, financial resources) to achieve project.
  • Deliverables (goals and objectives) as per funding agreement and approved project proposal.
  • Timely project deliverables (trainings, synthesis, tools, publications) and reporting as mandated by donor/s or ICRAF governance.
