Overview

Atlantic Coast New York Veterinary Specialists - Bohemia is currently seeking Overnight ER/ICU Technicians to join their team. SIGN-ON BONUS OFFERED FOR QUALIFIED FULL-TIME CANDIDATES!

Compensation
:
Pay Range $24.55 — $40 USD per hour. Sign-on bonus eligibility details are provided with the offer.

Responsibilities
  • Provide patient care by determining animal requirements, conducting examinations and diagnostic procedures, assisting during surgery and operations, providing nursing care, and maintaining patient medical records.
  • Care for patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications, drugs, and vaccines, and bandaging wounds.
  • Assist with examinations and operations by assembling required supplies, restraining patients as directed by the veterinarian, and ensuring proper documentation.
  • Apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, equipment usage, and drug administration in daily care.
  • Obtain and verify medications; manage food and water for patients; maintain clean rooms, cages, and equipment; observe for clinical signs of disease.
  • Fill prescriptions and monitor medications, including proper documentation and security of controlled drugs, as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Maintain a safe and humane environment by sterilizing instruments, sanitizing areas, storing sterile supplies, and adhering to applicable regulations.
  • Maintain medical records by documenting patient conditions, reactions, and changes; update databases accurately and timely.
  • Communicate with pet owners about patient status as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Maintain equipment through routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and arranging repairs as needed.
  • Maintain inventory, place orders for supplies, verify orders, and manage receipts.
  • Release pets to owners as directed and ensure they are clean and properly groomed before release.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Manager or practice.
Additional Position Functions

Assignment to emergency and specialty medical areas may require additional duties:

  • Assist veterinarians with emergency procedures and critical care; monitor vitals, place catheters, and take x-rays.
  • Clean wounds, apply casts/bandages, give injections, and collect blood samples.
  • On-call duties in the intensive care unit may be required.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Emergency experience required.
  • Two or more years of experience with veterinary appointments, surgeries, and nursing care for hospitalized and critical patients.
  • CVT/LVT/RVT/LVMT preferred.
  • May consider an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.
Schedule
  • Full-Time, Overnight Shift
  • Thursday to Sunday from 7PM-7AM
Position

Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • Knowledge of preparation, monitoring, and recovery of pets receiving surgery, and basic pet nursing.
  • Ability to place catheters, perform phlebotomy, emergency medicine, and digital radiology procedures.
  • Understand and limit exposure to bites, scratches, and potential injuries; restrain patients per standard procedures.
  • Fill prescriptions and monitor sedation procedures as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Work with or around sick animals, hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors.
  • Communicate professionally and maturely; be flexible with scheduling and able to work some weekends and holidays.
  • This is a physically demanding job with lifting, cleaning, and constant motion; may involve extended standing, walking, and occasional climbing or bending.
  • Answer phones and perform other duties as needed by the hospital.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager or practice.
