McAlvain Companies is seeking a Senior Accountant or Assistant Controller to help support our growing construction operations. This role will play a key part in maintaining accurate financials, strengthening internal controls, and partnering with members of the team to deliver strong customer experiences. The ideal candidate will have experience in corporate accounting, strong capabilities in the Microsoft Office Suite of products, and possess a willingness to learn and grasp new concepts.
Responsibilities- Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Lead portions of the month-end close process (accruals, reconciliations, journal entries).
- Reconciliation of general ledgers and sub ledgers across multiple companies to ensure accuracy.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure proper coding across divisions and entities.
- Review financial results and variances; prepare analysis for leadership.
- Compile monthly Work-In-Progress schedule across multiple entities.
- Reconcile job cost and revenue accounts to ensure proper revenue recognition.
- Management and oversight of company credit card system and transactions.
- Administration and support of company ERP system.
- Review accounts payable and accounts receivable information for issues.
- Preparation of monthly union contribution forms and payments.
- File monthly/quarterly state sales tax obligations.
- Collaborate with project accountants in the respective divisions for project support.
- Take initiative to identify and/or correct issues when identified.
- Ensure that important tasks and deadlines are achieved.
- Support the various teams throughout the organization with a positive attitude.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Wonderful time management, with the ability to multi-task across different problems.
- Exhibits the desire to be a part of a team.
- Highly organized.
- Advanced use of Microsoft Office suite programs, specifically Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to be resourceful and problem solve issues as they arise.
- Maintain a friendly and courteous attitude, even under stressful situations.
- Ability to maintain an elevated level of confidentiality.
- Demonstrates ownership over their responsibilities and sees tasks through till the very end.
- Bachelor’s or Associate degree in the field of Accountancy.
- 3+ years of experience in corporate accounting.
- Experience with a construction company is beneficial, but not required.
- Experience with large ERP systems is beneficial, but not required.
- Moderate-to-Advanced knowledge of Excel is beneficial but not required.
