Position: BUSINESS DIRECTOR

The Idaho Secretary of State is one of Idaho’s seven statewide elected officials tasked with executing specific constitutional and statutory duties. The Secretary serves as Idaho’s chief elections official, oversees the registration of businesses, trademarks, notaries, and other professions, as well as maintains records on the official actions of the Governor and Legislatur. The Business Division Director oversees the processing of domestic and foreign business filings, Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) Lien filings, Commission of Notaries, Apostille and Authentication Certifications, trademark applications, and Video Franchise Authority applications.

The Business Division Director oversees the operations of the Business Services Division, including training, implementing the division's vision, and serving as a representative of the Secretary of State to the public.

Job Responsibilities
  • Support the business division staff with the daily operations of the office to maintain a smooth workflow;
  • Work directly with the Secretary of State, Chief Deputy, and the Office of the Attorney General (DAG) on legal matters and budgets pertaining to the Business Division;
  • Maintain records in a computerized system;
  • Assist with reviewing and processing daily filings;
  • Prepare a weekly work schedule;
  • Coordinate weekly staff meetings;
  • Prepare and present personnel evaluations;
  • Identify and execute new areas and opportunities for training internally and externally;
  • Develop and maintain business division manuals, training materials, and procedures;
  • Interview and hire new employees;
  • Assist in training new employees;
  • Assist customers with questions and complaints through emails and phone calls;
  • Review documents and correspondence letters;
  • Work with IT to maintain the office filing database application;
  • Maintain and purchase office supplies;
  • Prepare a statistical report for the Director's staff meeting.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience managing a team;
  • Knowledge and experience researching Idaho Statutes;
  • Some experience developing and delivering education presentations on technical topics to varied audiences;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent customer service skills. Highly skilled in problem‑solving and resolving customer concerns and complaints both in‑person and telephonically;
  • Dependable and highly organized;
  • Strong time management skills;
  • Drive to continuously learn and develop new skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Idaho's laws relating to business filings, notaries, and trademarks;
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration or related field;
  • Experience developing policy and procedures;
  • Experience in a call center environment.
