Position: 2026 - YMCA Camp Tumbleson Lake Teen Leadership Coordinator

Overview

YMCA Camp Tumbleson Lake is seeking a leader to oversee our Teen Leadership Development Program.

Our Teen Leadership Coordinator works out of our oldest unit with resident campers ages 14-17 years to support high school age campers in their leadership journey.

Beyond coordinating and mentoring some of our camp population, our ideal candidate understands the power of community and teamwork and is eager to collaborate with and support the rest of our 100 plus person staff throughout the summer. We are looking for staffers who have an "I've got this" mindset, who show initiative and a solutions-oriented attitude.

Responsibilities
  • Supervises 1-3 camp counselors working with teens in the Leadership Development Program (LDP) on a weekly basis.
  • Reviews and evaluates staff performance and effectiveness, including daily check-ins and one-on-one feedback sessions. Supports other leadership team members with camp counselor feedback sessions as needed.
  • Reports directly to the Resident Camp Director.
  • Oversees teen programming facilitated by camp counselors.
  • Facilitates high quality leadership programming with teens.
  • Works closely with the unit coordinators and other coordinators as needed.
  • Lives in yurt accommodations with other leadership staff members.
  • Works closely with the Program Director when teens are supporting evening programs.
  • Works closely with the behavioral specialists, health officer, and camp nurses to ensure high quality care for campers.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers under their supervision, including maintaining appropriate staff to camper ratios as required.
  • Maintain a professional presence for YMCA Camp Tumbleson Lake through appropriate staff and camper interactions and adheres to associations and camps codes of conduct.
  • Attends all scheduled bus chaperone assignments on check-in and check-out days.
  • Attends all required staff meetings on time.
  • Adheres to program standards and expectations including safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Models’ relationship-building skills for campers and staff.
  • Drives YMCA of Northern Colorado vehicles on and off site as needed.
  • Problem solves, communicates, and documents camper behavioral issues as they arise, and passes them off to leadership staff members as needed.
  • Incorporate the mission, philosophy, and 5 core values of the YMCA of Northern Colorado in all communication with participants and staff-members.
  • Other job duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 21+ years old.
  • High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
  • Cleared to drive YMCA vehicles with a clean MVR.
  • Previous experience working with children ages 14-17 years preferred.
  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor skills, archery, arts and crafts, field sports, hiking, outdoor education, mountain biking.
  • Completion of child abuse prevention for supervisory staff, CPR/AED, first aid, blood borne pathogens. (We provide this as part of staff training week)
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
