Aguirre Project Resources (APR) is an independent cost estimating consultancy. Our only deliverable is a defensible number and the reasoning behind it, produced for owners, program managers, and design teams who need an independent check on cost.

Our estimators work across commercial, institutional, healthcare, education, government, transportation, aviation, laboratory, and cultural projects, from conceptual budgets through GMP validation and reconciliation. The Home Office team is fully distributed, running 15–25 concurrent engagements on roughly two-week turnaround cycles. There are no bid days and no win-rate pressure. The estimate is the product.

We are hiring a C/S/A cost estimator to produce independent estimates for building and site scopes across our project portfolio. You will own your discipline scope on assigned projects, develop quantities and pricing from the documents provided, and document the assumptions that support your number well enough for it to hold up in a reconciliation meeting.

This posting is open at both the Estimator and Senior Estimator level. We level candidates individually based on demonstrated capability rather than years on a resume. The difference between the two levels is described below.

C/S/A at APR covers building and site construction scopes outside of the mechanical and electrical trades:

• Civil / Site: demolition and existing conditions, earthwork and site preparation, shoring and excavation support, paving and exterior improvements, site drainage and stormwater, landscaping and hardscape, and site utilities. C/S/A estimators are the primary estimators for site utilities, excepting electrical and communications utilities, which are handled by the Electrical/ICT discipline. Mechanical estimators support utility scopes and handle more specialized work such as process piping, storage tanks, and wells.
• Structural: foundations, cast-in-place and precast concrete, masonry, structural and miscellaneous steel, cold-formed framing, wood and composite framing, and structural retrofit or reinforcement work.
• Architectural: building envelope, roofing, waterproofing and thermal protection, doors, windows, curtain wall and storefront, interior partitions and finishes, specialties, equipment, furnishings, special construction, and conveying systems.

Depth in one area with working competence across the others is expected. We do not expect one person to be equally strong in site civil, structural steel, and interior finishes.

3–8 years of relevant estimating or construction experience.

Owns discipline scope on assigned projects with review and support from a lead.

Owns discipline scope independently across concurrent projects; sets the approach.

Comfortable at DD and CD where documents support direct takeoff.

Comfortable at conceptual and SD where scope must be assumed and defended.

Work is reviewed. Expected to respond to and learn from review comments.

Reviews the work of others. Expected to catch scope gaps before the client does.

Limited; supports reconciliation and clarification requests.

Direct; presents and defends the estimate in reconciliation.

• Develop quantity takeoffs for civil, structural, and architectural scopes from drawings, specifications, and available BIM models.
• Build detailed cost estimates using APR's cost database, published cost data, historical project data, and current market pricing.
• Estimate across all delivery phases: conceptual and programming budgets, SD, DD, CD, GMP validation, bid evaluation, and change order review.
