Position Overview
Paraprofessional in Special Education; assists teachers in resource rooms, extended resource rooms, positive behavior intervention programs, early childhood special education, and tuition kindergarten. Provides support to students with a variety of mild to severe physical, emotional, and learning disabilities.
Hourly Rate$16.00
Qualifications- Have 2 years of college credits, or a college degree.
- Pass the Para Pro Praxis Assessment with a score of 457 or higher, or the Idaho Paraprofessional Testing Alternative with a score of 75% or higher (must be passed within 90 days of start date if not already completed).
- Assist special education teachers in implementing IEPs.
- Prepare, modify, and adapt lesson plans, materials, and presentations.
- Administer diagnostic, skills, and level testing.
- Tutor students and provide supplemental instruction.
- Support students with personal hygiene, medication administration, and therapeutic tasks.
- Facilitate inclusion into regular classrooms as needed.
- Help with classroom management, grading, clerical duties, document upkeep, and record‑keeping.
- Perform substitute teacher duties in the absence of the teacher.
- Maintain classroom cleanliness and supply levels.
- Supervise students on field trips and other extracurricular activities.
- Conduct school grounds, bus, and safety monitoring as assigned.
- Participate in professional training, workshops, and in‑service programs.
- Perform other related duties as required, in accordance with district policies and safety practices.
- Basic educational procedures and classroom instruction.
- Special education methods for mild to severe disabilities.
- Operation of classroom instructional and standard office equipment.
- Proficient computer usage and job‑related software.
- Follow written and oral instructions and adhere to district policies.
- Modify classroom instructions to appropriate learning levels.
- Prepare and maintain required records, files, and reports.
- Maintain a calm demeanor and handle high‑stress situations.
- Perform time management, scheduling, and task prioritization.
- Establish effective relationships with students, teachers, and staff.
- Communicate orally and in writing with clarity and confidentiality.
- Demonstrate integrity and inventiveness in tasks.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required; college or advanced education preferred.
- Classroom or instructive experience preferred.
- Experience working with special‑needs children preferred.
- Equivalent combination of experience and training accepted.
- Clear speech and hearing to receive verbal instructions.
- Good visual acuity for reading and reviewing documents.
- Manual dexterity to interact with students and operate classroom equipment.
- Personal mobility and strength to bend, stoop, kneel, lift up to 25 pounds, and manage students as needed.
- Employment is at will; may be terminated by either party at any time.
