Position OverviewThe Criminal Justice (CJ) Program, and the Conflict Management Program (CONF), both in the School of Public Service at Boise State University, seeks applicants for a full-time (nine month) Lecturer I with teaching expertise in the areas of criminal justice and conflict management, to start in the fall of 2026. We seek a faculty member with an advanced or terminal degree in criminal justice, conflict management, or a closely related field.
We seek a student-oriented lecturer with experience designing and delivering learning experiences to undergraduate and graduate students. This position will support two rapidly growing programs in the School Public Service.
As the first shared position between these two connected programs, the successful applicant will support our student population in navigating their current academic experience and influence students in a meaningful way as they prepare for their careers. We are looking for someone to join our team that deeply cares about the student experience, provides meaningful and timely feedback inside the classroom, communicates effectively with both students and colleagues.
Furthermore, we are seeking a candidate that has a demonstrated commitment to student support, professional service, and institutional leadership.
This position will be responsible for teaching a wide range of classes in criminal justice and conflict management, in various formats (e.g., in person, online, remote, and/or via hybrid modality), which could include foundational or advanced criminal justice or conflict management classes based on the applicant’s area(s) of expertise. We anticipate that initially the teaching breakdown to be 75% of the candidate’s workload will be dedicated to criminal justice and 25% to conflict management.
There is also the potential to have the successful candidate create courses that don’t yet exist, but connect the Criminal Justice and Conflict Management programs more intentionally. The work location will be in the Criminal Justice office space on the main campus of Boise State.
Founded in 1966, Criminal Justice currently offers a bachelor’s (BS), a minor, and a master’s (MA) in Criminal Justice. The program serves more than 600 students. Approximately 40 percent of BS graduates go on to attend law school or graduate school. Thousands of graduates of the program have gone onto jobs in victim services, policing, law and courts, corrections, and research.
Faculty in the program are committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service.
The Conflict Management program is built around certificate offerings at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, emphasizing experiential learning and the development of practical skills. The program has been around for more than 20 years and continues to support students across a broad range of academic disciplines and from 35 different majors. The program has seen a significant increase of 100% in student enrollment over the last 4 years and is continuing to grow.
The program's mission, to prepare students to be confident, capable, and resilient leaders who can effectively navigate conflict in professional and personal life, and experiential nature, resonate with students. We are a small friendly and engaged faculty of 2 full time lecturers, and one half time lecturer who love working with our students and serving the community.
