IDOC - SICI - Instructor

Location:

South Idaho Correctional Institution (SICI) in Kuna, Idaho. Applicants must be willing to work in a correctional environment, and the incumbent will be required to work in direct contact with residents both one-on-one and in a group setting. The position requires the incumbent to work some non-traditional hours to include some nights and weekends.

This position is 100% grant funded. Employment depends on the ongoing availability of such funding. If grant funding is reduced, delayed, or discontinued, the agency reserves the right to modify the terms of employment.

Summary

The Idaho Department of Correction has a vacancy for an Instructor at the South Idaho Correctional Institution (SICI) in Kuna, Idaho. Applicants must be willing to work in a Correctional environment, and the incumbent will be required to work in direct contact with residents both one-on-one and in a group setting. The desirable candidate should have experience working with adult learners and have knowledge of life skills, employability skills, and community/re‑entry resources.

The position requires the incumbent to work some non-traditional hours to include some nights and weekends.

Responsibilities
  • Determine educational goals and develop curriculum.
  • Plan class activities.
  • Assess students' needs and capabilities.
  • Administer and interpret diagnostic tests.
  • Determine appropriate instructional methods.
  • Develop course materials.
  • Provide individual and group instruction.
  • Evaluate students' progress and behavior and prepare reports.
  • Counsel students regarding educational program and personal problems.
  • Obtain supplies for class.
  • Maintain students' records.
  • Provide input to staff regarding educational and behavioral objectives.
  • Coordinate students' educational or vocational goals with staff.
  • Consult with other instructors on course development and students' progress.
  • Consult with other agencies and organizations regarding students' progress and behavior.
  • Monitor students' behavior to maintain discipline and ensure safety and security of fellow students, staff, self, equipment, and materials.
  • Report accidents, changes in health, or other emergencies to medical staff or security.
  • Prepare conduct reports.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Eligible for Idaho Standard Secondary Education Certificate; OR Eligible for Occupational Specialist Certificate; OR have a Bachelor's degree and at least two years experience teaching individuals in a group setting.
  • Must be willing to work in a correctional facility.
Desirable Qualifications
  • A current Idaho teaching license is preferred.
