Friends of Children and Families is a non‑profit organization serving Ada and Elmore Counties, specializing in services to pre‑school children and their families. As a mission‑based organization, our employees positively impact children and families in our community by empowering them through early childhood education and family engagement.
Job Summary: Enhance and support parent‑child relationships by implementing a home‑based Early Head Start program for pregnant moms and families of infants and toddlers. Partners with community agencies. Provides individualized and comprehensive health and development services to women before, during, and after pregnancy. Partners with families to enhance the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of children (birth to 36 months).
Essential Functions:
- Conduct one home visit each week with the parents and children of each family, integrating information on child development, health, nutrition, mental health, and social services, promoting and supporting the families’ achievement of self‑sufficiency.
- Work with families to develop weekly individualized lesson plans, utilizing household materials in educational activities.
- Complete 45‑ and 90‑day health and education requirements.
- Collaborate with other community agencies to provide individualized services for infants and toddlers with disabilities.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate group socialization experiences to be held a minimum of twice a month in a center‑based or community environment.
- Provide prenatal and parenting information to expectant parents. Provide resources and/or referrals for each family in areas such as health, nutrition, social services, and mental health.
- Document all services and follow‑up treatment, as necessary.
- Submit written reports for each home visit and socialization.
- Complete all required record‑keeping and internal and external reporting tasks in a timely and objective manner, in accordance with Child Plus and other applicable tracking systems, as requested.
- Conduct developmental screenings and ongoing assessment of the developmental progress of infants and toddlers, including parents in all aspects of services.
- Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures in compliance with Head Start Performance and FOCAF Standards.
- Collaborate with families, co‑workers, community partners and the general public to further program goals, respond to questions, problem‑solve and establish effective working relationships.
- Attend all scheduled child and family staffing, advising the appropriate coordinator/manager of health, family services or education concerns; prepare reports as required.
- Assist the team to assure the successful transition of Early Head Start children into Head Start.
- Comply with FOCAF policies regarding the reporting of abuse and neglect.
- Remain up to date with policies and practices.
- Effectively respond, communicate with and present information to co‑workers, customers, clients, vendors, and the general public in a courteous and timely manner.
- Maintain both electronic and hard copy filing systems commensurate with the needs of FOCAF and in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
- Participate in reflective supervision at least once a month for 90 minutes.
- Review Emergency Action Plan for all drills.
- Regularly involve and encourage parents to volunteer within all components of the program.
- Demonstrate commitment to professional development and continuous growth by actively seeking out and participating in training opportunities.
- Engage with supervisor and co‑workers on constructive and timely feedback, accepting feedback as a growth opportunity, and be open to continuous improvement for oneself and the organization.
Qualifications:
- Home Visitor CDA or comparable credential, or an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Child Development, Social Work, Human Services or related field.
