Traveling between tactical locations sometimes requires refueling mid-flight. As a boom operator, you make sure this goes off without a hitch by operating a specialized boom from the back of a KC-135 to pump thousands of gallons of fuel when the need arises. You’ll demonstrate steady hands and nerves of steel, serving a pivotal role in helping our crews to successfully complete mission objectives.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Advise receiver pilot to safely maintain position for refueling.
- Operate in-flight refueling controls to initiate and maintain contact between tanker and receiving aircraft.
- Compute weight and balance data and refuel.
- Direct cargo loading and unloading.
- Up to 30 days of vacation with pay each year.

- HS diploma or GED.
- Courses in physics and mathematics are desirable.
- ASVAB score of 55 on General.
- Physical qualification for in-flight refueling duty.
- Must maintain eligibility to deploy and mobilize worldwide.
- Height not less than 64" or more than 77".
- Eligibility for top-secret security clearance.
