United States Job # of Openings:1
We are currently looking for Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design and engineering of retrofit and retro-fill solutions for low-voltage and medium-voltage switch gear. You will play a key role in designing, developing, and improving mechanical systems and equipment that support RMS Energy’s customers and field operations.
This position offers the opportunity to take your engineering expertise beyond the desk and see your work make a direct impact in the field.
You’ll collaborate closely with engineering, operations, field personnel, and project teams to develop practical, reliable, and cost-effective solutions while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and performance. From concept through implementation, you’ll solve real-world engineering challenges and help ensure projects are successfully delivered on time.
What You’ll Do:- Develop mechanical designs for LV and MV switch gear retrofit and retro-fill applications, including replacement breakers, compartments, cell structures, bus interfaces, mounting systems, shutters, barriers, doors, and related components.
- Review existing switch gear designs, drawings, photographs, field measurements, bills of material, and customer documentation to determine retrofit feasibility and develop replacement solutions.
- Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and 2D manufacturing drawings using CAD software.
- Design mechanical interfaces between new equipment and existing/legacy switch gear.
- Perform dimensional analysis, tolerance stack-ups, fit-up evaluations, and interference checks to ensure successful installation and operation.
- Develop designs that account for manufacturability, serviceability, installation, structural integrity, clearances, and applicable industry standards.
- Work with electrical engineers to coordinate bus, conductor sizing, breaker control, protection and maintain insulation integrity.
- Review legacy drawings and reverse-engineer existing equipment when necessary.
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical recommendations for challenging retrofit applications.
