Summary

The Senior VDC/CAD Specialist is a hands-on technical leader responsible for producing and coordinating high-quality multidiscipline design models and drawings while advancing the company’s CAD and virtual design and construction capabilities. The role will initially focus heavily on direct production work and coordination of subcontracted CAD resources. As the function grows, this position is expected to develop into a leadership role responsible for supervising internal team members, establishing scalable workflows, and building reliable backfill capacity across the department.

Responsibilities:

  • Create, revise, and maintain accurate 2D drawings and 3D models for industrial construction and engineering projects.
  • Coordinate models received from clients, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and other project participants across multiple disciplines and file formats.
  • Perform model aggregation, interference review, constructability coordination, and clash detection; communicate and track issues through resolution.
  • Support piping, electrical, civil, structural, mechanical, and equipment-layout workflows based on project needs and individual expertise.
  • Oversee and coordinate subcontracted CAD/BIM production support, including scope clarification, workload assignment, technical review, quality control, and schedule follow-through.
  • Develop, update, document, and maintain company-wide CAD/BIM standards, templates, naming conventions, layer standards, file structures, and quality-control procedures.
  • Build and maintain reusable digital assets, including blocks, families, assemblies, templates, details, symbols, and model content libraries.
  • Establish practical workflows for version control, model exchange, file compatibility, collaboration, and project handoff.
  • Review drawings and models for accuracy, consistency, completeness, and compliance with company and project standards.
  • Train and mentor CAD/BIM staff, document repeatable processes, and develop cross-training and backfill capacity within the team.
  • Evaluate new tools, automation opportunities, and process improvements that increase quality, consistency, and production efficiency.
  • Partner with engineering, project management, estimating, construction, controls and automation, and other stakeholders to align digital deliverables with project requirements.
  • Assume increasing responsibility for team leadership, resource planning, work allocation, and performance development as internal staff are added.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Experience:

  • Five or more years of relevant CAD, BIM, VDC, or design-technology experience.
  • No degree required; candidates must provide a portfolio, work samples, or comparable evidence of technical ability.
  • Strong multidisciplinary CAD experience or advanced expertise in piping, electrical, civil, or another relevant discipline.
  • Experience coordinating models from multiple contributors, disciplines, file formats, and authoring platforms.
  • Proficiency in multiple Autodesk applications, with the ability to work across Revit, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Plant 3D, Inventor, and Navisworks.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, vendor information, and project requirements.
  • Strong communication, organization, quality-control, troubleshooting, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to mentor others and grow into a formal team-leadership role.

Preferred Experience

  • Autodesk Construction Cloud, BIM 360, BIM Collaborate, Glue, or Autodesk Forma.
  • Creating and maintaining AutoLISP routines.
  • Using Autodesk APIs or SDKs to automate workflows or develop custom tools.
  • Developing CAD/BIM standards, templates, content libraries, and reusable model assets.
  • Coordinating outsourced production resources or supporting industrial and construction projects.
