Fab Digit is an engineering-led manufacturing platform built to eliminate the friction between hardware design and final delivery. By combining an instant, AI-driven DFM quoting engine with a deeply integrated global supply network, Fab Digit brings 5-axis CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, injection molding, 3D printing, and PCB/PCBA together on one platform for hardware teams in robotics, EV, aerospace, and medical devices.
We are looking for a motivated, detail-oriented Mechanical Engineering Intern who is fluent in both English and Mandarin to work directly with our founding engineering team at the intersection of software and physical production. You will analyze customer 3D CAD files, evaluate manufacturing feasibility, translate critical drawing callouts, and work with our precision machining and fabrication partners to make sure parts are delivered to exact engineering specifications.
You will touch dozens of real production parts every week, work shoulder-to-shoulder with the founders, and see your DFM reviews prevent scrap on live customer programs — and strong performance can open a direct path to a full-time engineering or operations role as Fab Digit grows. The internship is paid and can be part-time or full-time.
- CAD & DFM evaluation: inspect customer 3D models (STEP, STL, SLDPRT) and 2D drawings — GD&T, tolerances, surface-finish callouts such as Ra — for manufacturability across CNC machining, sheet metal, and injection molding
- Supply chain coordination: work directly with our global manufacturing partners and precision machine shops to clarify toolpaths, raw-material certifications (e.g., Al 6061-T6, Inconel 718, PEEK), lead times, and fabrication schedules
- Technical drawing review & translation: accurately translate technical specifications, tolerance blocks, and post-processing requirements (anodizing, heat treatment, laser marking) between English and Mandarin
- Quality assurance & traceability: review incoming inspection, CMM, and First Article Inspection (FAI) reports against customer engineering requirements before parts ship
- Platform improvement: give the software team direct engineering feedback to keep improving our automated quoting engine and AI DFM risk checks
- Current student or recent graduate in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline
- Full professional proficiency in English and Mandarin Chinese (spoken and written technical communication) — comfortable discussing technical details with factory managers and tooling engineers
- Hands-on experience with at least one major 3D CAD suite (Solid Works, Fusion 360, Siemens NX, or PTC Creo)
- Solid understanding of technical drawings, geometric tolerances, fit types (press vs. slip), and machining operations (milling, turning, EDM)
- A meticulous eye for detail: zero tolerance for missed drawing notes, unit-conversion errors, or overlooked tolerance stack-ups
- Ownership and work ethic: proactive, self-directed, and eager to roll up your sleeves in a fast-moving hardware startup
- A strong problem solver who can spot fabrication issues early and suggest constructive design changes
- Based in the United States and authorized to work in the U.S.
Expected Compensation
$23.98 – $28.87 / hour (paid internship, part-time or full-time)
Actual pay depends on factors such as work location, role-specific knowledge, skills, and experience. The total package may also include additional components depending on the offer. Full details of any benefits are shared if an offer is made.
