U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs | Boise VA Medical Center, Boise,  | VISN 20 | Positions filled as available until 18 Dec 2025 with 2‑week intervals thereafter.

Pay Range

Base pay: $44,959.00/yr – $58,445.00/yr

Summary

Health Technician (Orthotic Fitter) responsible for fitting and maintaining orthotic devices for patients, performing simple repairs, documenting services, and supporting the Orthotics and Prosthetics laboratory.

Qualifications
  • English proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • One year of specialized experience at GS‑6 level (GS‑5 equivalence) in orthotics, dressing, fitting, or related health care services.
  • Experience includes or comprises: instructing patients on wear and maintenance of orthotic devices; measuring, fitting, dispensing non‑custom orthotic appliances; performing simple orthotic repairs of cuffs, straps, shoes; annotating patient medical records into computer systems; and familiarity with HIPAA, OSHA guidelines.
  • Preferred:
    Certified Orthotic Fitter credential; prior athletic trainer experience; knowledge of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology; body‑structure identification; proficiency with plastic and metal work; experience as an orthopedic cast technician; customer‑service skills.
  • Full, verifiable employment record including job title, duties, dates, hours, and documented experience.
  • Duties
    • Work in the Orthotics and Prosthetics laboratory at one of the VAMCs in VISN 20.
    • Fit and apply orthotic devices and depth inlay shoes under direction of a Certified Orthotist or Prosthetist.
    • Instruct patients on wear, maintenance and benefits of orthotic devices.
    • Measure, fit, dispense, and instruct walk‑in patients on a variety of non‑custom orthotic appliances.
    • Repair orthotic components (cuffs, suspension straps, shoes, etc.) using leather, metal, plastic, and fabric materials.
    • Annotate patient medical records to CPRS per Quality Improvement and Joint Commission standards.
    • Perform simple orthotic and custom inlay hosiery or casting as required.
    • Stand, squat, kneel, walk long distances within the medical center for most of the shift.
    • Lift and carry objects between 10‑40 lb, occasionally >40 lb.
    • Assist in staff scheduling and laboratory workflow as needed.
