Environmental Healt Specialist 1-Boise, Idaho
Central District Health (CDH) has an opening for an Environmental Health Specialist 1 (EHS
1) that will be used for training purposes (underfill) for the Environmental Health Specialist
2. Through various types of on-the-job training, employees will learn to carry out the duties of the full working level (EHS
2) and will be promoted when the full level is accomplished.

Typical Duties:
- Evaluates environmental health conditions through inspections and investigations of food service establishments, childcare facilities, and public pools within the CDH jurisdiction;
- Enforces applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations and determines existence and cause of violations;
- Prepares reports of findings and advises business operators on correction plans, operating procedures, and safe food handling practices;
- Conducts tests to determine levels of contamination; operates and maintains specialized testing equipment and detection devices;
- Advises, consults, and collaborates with business owners and operators regarding health and safety rules and regulations;
- Reviews plans and specification for a variety of facilities for compliance with sanitation standards;
- Promotes public awareness of environmental laws, regulations, and standards;
- Educates owners and operators on health and safety standards and foodborne illness prevention strategies.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Good knowledge of Environmental Health Practices;
- The incumbent must be willing to meet the National Environmental Health Association registration requirements as an Environmental Health Specialist or Trainee. This includes possession of a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Environmental Health or possession of a Bachelor's Degree with 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) in basic science coursework. Click
