This position is typically performed in 24-hour shifts or a combination of 12 and 24 hour shifts for an average of 56 hours per week on a rotating schedule. Based on this work schedule, your base wage and rate of $26.86, including overtime, has a potential earning of $89,390.08 annually.

Hiring Process

Ada County Paramedics conducts a hiring exam in the spring and fall of each year for EMT, AEMT, Paramedic and Reserve positions. POSITION GENERAL

SUMMARY:

Provides advanced-level medical care including evaluation, treatment, and stabilization to the ill and injured. A Paramedic has a comprehensive knowledge base and is able to diagnose and provide care for a broad range of medical emergencies. This position is located in the Ada County Emergency Medical Services Department.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

A Paramedic has licensure as a Paramedic and performs complex and varied work, making decisions and solving problems according to clinical standards.

Essential Functions
  • Administer and direct efficient and effective first aid treatment, medical care, or life support care to sick or injured persons in prehospital settings in compliance with clinical standards, requiring the possession and maintenance of State licensure as a Paramedic in addition to:
    Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications;
  • Access, extricate, immobilize, and transport patients from a range of locations and emergency medical situations to appropriate medical facility, administering treatment along the way, requiring an excellent level of fitness, stamina, eyesight, and physical agility;
  • Assess nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures;
  • Operates and navigates emergency vehicles and operates equipment necessary to perform emergency diagnostic and treatment procedures;
  • Communicates effectively with necessary parties in person and/or off‑site using radio or other means, including paramedic, EMT, dispatch, hospital, police, and fire personnel;
  • Participate in continuing training and instruction to include emergency medicine, hazardous materials, disaster response, technical rescue, occupational safety practices, customer service, and other pertinent subjects;
  • Maintains Patient Care Reports, files, and forms;
  • Maintains records of vehicles, supplies, training, and daily work;
  • Ensures the quality and accuracy of care provided by EMTs;
  • Cleans and maintains equipment, vehicles, and living quarters.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Provides training to personnel;
  • Performs technical rescues;
  • Performs other related functions as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Must possess and maintain Idaho State licensure as a Paramedic;
  • Must maintain a high degree of academic and practical knowledge in emergency paramedicine, and must attend sufficient continuing education classes, courses, and seminars both on and off duty to maintain paramedic…
