Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) – Saint Alphonsus Health System

Position PurposeThe CHRO is responsible for strategic and operational leadership of Human Resources in the region, reporting to the regional CEO and serving as a member of the Regional Leadership Team. The role involves aligning HR programs, services, and initiatives with system objectives, developing annual strategy and workforce plans, and overseeing operational aspects of HR service delivery.
Core Responsibilities- Develop the regional HR strategic plan and supporting service strategy in partnership with the Regional CEO and other leaders.
- Lead a team of CHROs, providing leadership, direction, and management oversight to ensure collaboration among HR leaders.
- Manage CHROs within the assigned region.
- Provide management oversight and support to the HR team, including mentoring, coaching, performance assessment, and feedback.
- Advise on professional development, quality performance, and educational needs.
- Ensure accountability of services and support from System Office‑managed HR specialty areas for regional implementation.
- Analyze and evaluate changes to existing HR strategies, programs, policies, and procedures to support the regional business strategy and workforce plan.
- Collaborate with regional leaders to determine locally defined approaches, develop action plans, and facilitate implementation of HR services.
- Partner with leaders to identify local business needs regarding compensation and benefits, and define program strategies.
- Partner with leaders to determine resource requirements, staffing needs, and sourcing approaches; analyze learning and development needs to drive Talent Stewardship programs.
- Analyze and evaluate results of performance management processes, identify gaps, and create plans to close them.
- Provide context and analytic support to business leaders on talent and workforce metrics.
- Collaborate with leaders to conduct due diligence and coordinate efforts to merge, acquire, or divest an organization.
- Work with the Colleague & Labor Relations team to support union organization efforts and representation management.
- Support culture, change, and engagement plans; consult on design and development of programs and tools.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, and Trinity Health policies.
- Oversee additional non‑HR departments (e.g., Payroll, Security) as needed.

- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources, labor relations, or related field (or equivalent). Master’s degree preferred.
- At least 10 years of Human Resources management experience in a healthcare setting.
- Experience as a business partner aligning HR and executive strategies with organizational vision.
- Advanced interpersonal, business, analytical, and change management skills.
- Experience developing action plans and initiatives to drive employee engagement.
- Ability to operate in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
- Demonstrated integrity, honesty, and caring presence.
Ability to adapt to frequently changing work priorities and travel to various Trinity Health sites as needed.
