AI SCIENTIST I (HEALTHCARE) – Hybrid (Office 3 days/week – Onsite‑Flex)

Location:

Oregon, Washington, Idaho or Utah.

We are seeking a motivated AI Scientist to join the Applied AI Team and help build a person‑focused, economically sustainable health‑care system by leveraging generative AI, machine learning, deep learning, optimization, and statistical modeling.

• Research, design, develop, and implement data‑driven models and algorithms using generative AI, machine learning, deep learning, and other statistical methods.
• Train and test models, and develop algorithms to solve business problems across clinical care delivery, customer experience, and payment integrity.
• Adhere to best‑practice standards and establish principled experimental frameworks for model development.
• Conduct reproducible experiments and analyses that others can replicate.
• Use open‑source packages and managed services where appropriate to facilitate model development.
• Identify, measure, analyze, and visualize drivers of model performance, including feature importance, interpretability, bias, and error analysis in both offline and production environments.
• Apply appropriate metrics and quantified outcomes to drive continuous AI model improvement.

• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Physics). Master’s or PhD preferred.
• 0–3 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong knowledge of generative AI, machine learning, and data science.
• Ability to use well‑understood techniques and existing patterns to build, analyze, deploy, and maintain models.
• Effective time and task management skills.
• Capacity to develop productive working relationships with colleagues and business partners.
• Strong interest in the healthcare industry.

• Generative AI: foundation models, transformer architectures, prompt engineering, fine‑tuning, evaluation methods, and alignment techniques.
• Machine Learning: classic algorithms, supervised/unsupervised reinforcement learning, hyperparameter tuning, evaluation concepts, and pipeline structure.
• Data: research design, visualization, and data‑driven problem answering.
• Programming: strong Python skills, familiarity with data science packages, software development best practices, and SQL.
• Algorithms: understanding of standard algorithms, data structures, and their analysis.
• Mathematics: linear algebra, discrete math, probability and statistics, calculus.
