About the Agency: The Idaho State Board of Education (Board) is established in the Idaho Constitution for the "general supervision of the state educational institutions and public school system." State law charges the Board with the general supervision, governance and control of public schools and postsecondary institutions, including community colleges. The Board is comprised of eight members: seven appointed by the Governor, as well as the statewide elected superintendent of public instruction.
The Office of the State Board of Education (OSBE) is charged with providing professional staff support to the Board and implementing the Board's policies, programs, and initiatives.
Summary:
The Chief Information Officer (CIO) provides executive leadership for the Office of the State Board of Education’s Education Data and Information Technology (EDIT) function. The CIO establishes strategic direction, oversees technology and data services, and ensures that information systems, infrastructure, applications, data, cybersecurity, and user support effectively advance the mission of the Board and the Office.
The CIO leads a multidisciplinary team supporting enterprise technology and education data functions across the Office, including data governance and analytics, education data systems, application development, infrastructure and end-user support, information security, longitudinal data services, broadband and related programs, and technology project delivery. The position works across the Idaho education system and with state agencies, public education institutions, school districts, charter schools, vendors, and other partners.
The CIO is responsible for technology strategy, operational performance, fiscal stewardship, risk management, data privacy and security, continuity and disaster recovery, major initiatives, vendor and contract oversight, and effective service delivery. The position provides executive-level advice on technology and data matters and represents the Office in statewide and external forums. The CIO is a strategic leader and people manager who provides direction and accountability rather than routinely performing hands‑on technical work.
