The Packer is responsible for maintaining the production lines running efficiently and ensuring all product is packaged by the specifications and guidelines. The Packer will have job rotations within their shift that may include manual packaging, sealing product, organizing product into boxes, and putting product on pallets, and operating pallet jacks to move/transport finished product or raw materials to other locations.

The Packer will also perform visual product inspections and report any issues. The Packer must be knowledgeable of all product specifications and be familiar with production reports. The Packer will always prioritize safety and general manufacturing practices. The packer will access product specifications via the company’s ERP system and will be required to enter data into the system.

Responsibilities
  • Food Safety & Safety:
    Always perform tasks according to Safety and Food Safety Standards. Participate in safety training programs and contribute to the development of safety initiatives to promote a culture of safety. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (SQF, GMP, HACCP, OSHA) and company policies and trainings related to food safety, sanitation, and environmental regulations (e.g., HACCP, Food Safety, GMP’s, Food Fraud/Defense, Allergens, Organic, Gluten Free)
  • Be knowledgeable about the products being packed, including product specifications and weight of each tortilla produced.
  • Retrieve product specifications from the company ERP system.
  • Identify and understand the specifications of the box and/or bag used for packaging.
  • Program the date machine (for bags and boxes) for different products produced during the day according to rotation.
  • Prepare the workstation at the start of the shift with bags and boxes; maintain the work area clean and organized per the company’s housekeeping policy.
  • Meet productivity goals by following the production schedule according to specifications.
  • Participate in line rotation as needed; assist coworkers or clean other lines during downtime or break coverage.
  • Communicate with the leader and machine operators about product deficiencies and foster proactive communication.
  • Operate Auto Baggers, Ilapak, and auto baggers.
  • Complete changeovers on the packaging area (vision system, counter stacker, auto bagger, bag printer, weight).
  • Enter production information into the TGI (Machine Log) and document product pathways.
  • Record downtime in the Machine Log system.
  • Retrieve packaging materials from the warehouse and return them at the end of the run.
  • Proficient use of computer and RF gun.
  • Practice continuous rotation within assigned workstations; package tortillas, box tortillas, lift boxes up to 50 lbs.
  • Assist in QA program activities such as pH verification, Metal Detection Program, recording pH levels and identifying any errors in specification due to pH levels or line quality issues.
  • Follow and comply with all SQF requirements and maintain SQF-compliant workstations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum

Job Requirements

Education/Certifications and

Experience:

  • Grade School level;
    High School Diploma/GED a plus.
  • 1-2 years’ experience operating or working with food manufacturing machinery or similar experience.
  • 1-2 years’ experience following work task specifications, SOPs, recipes, etc.

  • Reliable, punctual, and able to handle schedule flexibility including weekends, holidays, and off-shifts as needed.
