Food From the Heart - Volunteer Snack and/or Meal Preparation
Since 1988, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Idaho has provided a home away from home for families of hospitalized or ill children receiving treatment at a Boise medical facility. Families come from across Idaho, Eastern Oregon, Northern Nevada and beyond. The House serves hundreds of families each year who face many challenges with their sick children.
Providing safe, supportive, welcoming housing is the purpose of the House. Staff, volunteers and the Board of Directors help meet basic needs and provide more than just the necessities. With support from all collaborators, families receive shelter, food, support and care.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Idaho Ronald McDonald House. Volunteer shifts are scheduled daily and are generally two hours long for both making snacks or preparing a meal. Shifts are available seven days a week.
- Baking / grab-and-go snacks: 10 am–12 pm (daily)
- Lunch: 10 am–12 pm (daily)
- Baking / grab-and-go snacks: 1 pm–3 pm (daily)
- Preparing a freezer meal: 1 pm–3 pm (daily)
- Dinner: 3 pm–6 pm (daily)
Because we serve immune‑compromised guests, we have prerequisites for in‑person volunteers. All minors must be accompanied by an adult who has also registered to volunteer.
When scheduled, you are responsible for providing a meal or baked goods for the families staying at the House. You may invite up to two other volunteers to join you. As the volunteer, you decide what to prepare.
All foods must be prepared either in the Ronald McDonald House or in a commercial kitchen. Volunteers can send a recipe or list to check on ingredients, but we cannot guarantee that requested ingredients have been donated in advance of the shift. If we do not have any ingredients, please bring those items in new and unopened packaging. We have a fully stocked kitchen and carry most basic supplies.
