Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Telemetry unit night shift position, requiring 2 years of cardiac post-procedural experience and an active compact RN license.
Responsibilities
• Work in an acute care hospital on the 3rd floor Telemetry unit, with 20 beds and a cardiac focus
• Will float between 3rd and 7th floor Telemetry units; 7th floor has 35 beds and covers general telemetry and overflow cases
• Patient population includes post-op cardiac (open heart, TAVRs, ablations, post caths, pacemakers), CHF, sepsis, electrolyte imbalances, and post-strokes
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:4
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts from 7p-7a, with weekend shifts (5-6 per 6-week schedule) required
• Travelers are first to float to any MS, MS-Tele, or Tele unit within the hospital or to sister facilities in Meridian or Nampa
• EMR is Epic; ability to read and interpret telemetry strips is required
• Two shifts of unit-specific orientation provided, one on each floor
• No call or standby requirement; may be asked to work holidays
• Will interpret and document cardiac telemetry twice per shift
• Expected to provide care for complex cardiac and general telemetry patients, including post-op and stepdown acuity
• Charge nurse available on each shift and acts as a non-assigned resource except in crisis situations
• CNAs support the unit staffing: 3 on 3rd floor, 5 on 7th floor
• Respiratory therapists are available on each floor to handle advanced respiratory needs; RNs may be asked to assist as needed
• Any color scrubs allowed for this assignment
• Travelers are valued and treated as part of the core team, with many extending assignments
• No blocked scheduling or special schedule requests accepted; schedule is flexible based on unit needs
Requirements
• Active compact RN license required at time of consideration
• Minimum 2 years of recent telemetry nursing experience is required
• Must have post-procedural cardiac experience (e.g., cath lab, ablations, open heart surgery)
• Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS (all must be current and in hand)
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry and document appropriately
• Prefer PCU or stepdown experience
• Willingness to float between units and facilities as assigned
• Ability to titrate cardiac drips (amio, cardizem, dopamine, dobutamine; heparin and insulin titration as needed, with training provided)
• Must provide a valid driver’s license for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire status
• No local candidates accepted; must live at least 50 miles from the facility
• Returning permanent employees must be gone for at least one year before reapplying as a traveler
