Key Responsibilities

  • Surface Preparation:
    Set up and align forms for concrete according to blueprints or plans.
  • Concrete Mixing and Pouring:
    Mix, pour, and spread concrete in specified proportions, ensuring it meets project specifications.
  • Finishing Techniques:
    Use tools such as trowels, floats, and screeds to smooth and level freshly poured concrete surfaces.
  • Application of Sealants:
    Apply sealants and hardening compounds to protect and enhance the durability of concrete surfaces.
  • Monitoring and Adjustments:
    Monitor the curing process of concrete and make necessary adjustments to ensure quality finishes.
  • Collaboration:

    Work alongside other tradespeople, including engineers and electricians, to complete construction projects effectively.
  • Maintenance:
    Clean and maintain tools and equipment used in the finishing process.
Required

Skills and Qualifications
  • Education:

    A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required. Vocational training or apprenticeship in concrete finishing is advantageous.
  • Experience:

    Hands‑on experience in concrete work is essential, often gained through on‑the‑job training or previous employment.
  • Physical Stamina:
    Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting heavy materials and working in various weather conditions.
  • Attention to Detail:
    Strong focus on quality workmanship and the ability to identify and correct imperfections in concrete surfaces.
  • Technical

    Skills:

    Familiarity with hand and power tools used in concrete finishing, as well as the ability to read and interpret blueprints.
Work Environment
  • Concrete finishers typically work outdoors on construction sites, which may involve exposure to varying weather conditions. The role requires physical endurance and the ability to work as part of the team.

Most jobs are local in the Boise region. Some travel may be required depending on projects.
