Crossing Guard - Hiring Pool 2025-26 School Year

Purpose:

Assists students in crossing streets; performs related work as required.

• Operate standard crosswalk and related safety equipment.
• Provide a safe environment for students to cross busy streets in a crosswalk, at a corner, traffic signal or other traffic control point, or other designated crossing point.
• Provide traffic and pedestrian control.
• Report hazardous conditions, situations, drivers, and violations to the building Principal or police as directed.
• Report student disciplinary actions and violations to a supervisor or the building Principal, as directed.
• Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with District policies, procedures, and safety practices.
• May perform lunchroom, playground, bus, and other monitoring duties as assigned.
• Performs other related duties as required.

• Basic traffic laws and procedures.
• Basic traffic control and pedestrian safety methods, techniques, and objectives.
• School rules and behavior requirements.
• Disciplinary and behavior modification methods and techniques.

• Follow oral and written instructions and observe District policies and procedures.
• Provide a safe environment for students crossing and waiting to cross streets to access school grounds.
• Discern and react appropriately to emergency or safety situations.
• Prepare and maintain required records, files, reports, logs, statistics, and documentation.
• Operate standard crosswalk and related safety equipment.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, teachers and staff members, and other District personnel.
• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Maintain student and District confidentiality.
• Demonstrate integrity, ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

• Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, to discern verbal conversation and communicate effectively on the telephone and in person.
• Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, to comprehend written work and assessments, prepare and review documents, and organize documents and materials.
• Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, to perform repetitive hand/wrist/arm motions and to operate a computer and office equipment.
• Sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, and balance, with or without reasonable accommodation, to work in an office environment, and to lift or move objects up to 20 lbs.
• Job tasks require, with or without reasonable accommodation, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting and grasping.
• Must have a valid Idaho Driver's License and a vehicle to drive and/or must provide own transportation for job related activities.
