The Ada County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a detail‑oriented and reliable Warehouse Specialist to oversee the receipt, storage, and distribution of supplies, equipment, and materials essential to daily jail operations. The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a secure, fast‑paced environment. The position plays a vital part in supporting facility operations and requires the ability to work traditional Monday‑Friday day shifts with some flexibility.
EssentialFunctions
- Receives, loads, unloads, and verifies delivery truck orders, documents deliveries, and delivers goods to appropriate areas or customers.
- Tracks back orders to ensure delivery and coordinates with Finance to secure payment for received undamaged items.
- Maintains accurate inventory records with par levels and tracks all purchases and product movements.
- Supervises inmate worker(s) as needed.
- Recommends stocking levels based on customer needs and supply availability.
- Maintains up‑to‑date documentation within the computer‑based inventory management system.
- Operates forklifts, lift trucks, and other material handling equipment.
- Engages vendors in ordering supplies, equipment, and related items; solicits bids and research products for cost and availability.
- Assists in budget preparation for supplies and equipment.
- Maintains equipment and ensures the warehouse and work areas remain clean and organized.
- Procures supplies and equipment, including creating and forwarding purchase order requests for warehouse stock.
- Removes daily trash and recyclables from kitchen and jail; organizes and transports dry goods between jail and off‑site storage locations.
- Reports observations or situations that could impact safety and security to supervisor or on‑duty sergeant.
- Performs related duties as required.
- High school diploma or state‑recognized equivalency certificate (GED) required.
- Preferred: experience in a warehouse setting and knowledge of jail/corrections security and safety procedures.
- Knowledge of safety requirements for warehouse operations, forklift and lift truck usage, cleaning procedures, and chemicals.
- Proficiency with computers and office equipment.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational guidelines.
- Ability to maintain good relationships with vendors and county officials.
- Must appear before an oral board and complete a polygraph and background investigation prior to hire.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Position is safety‑sensitive and subject to random drug testing.
- Warehouse environment in a jail facility; exposure to inside and outside environmental conditions.
- Must be able to lift up to 60 lb.
- Requires sufficient mobility and physical reflexes to perform tasks in a warehouse and jail setting.
