Education & Training
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Must pass annual competencies
Licensure & Certifications
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Providers CPR certification
Experience
  • One-year dental assistance experience preferred
  • Computer and typing skills or willingness to undergo PC training
Job Responsibilities
  • Brings patients back for dental appointments in a timely manner.
  • Enter or updates patient health history and medication at each appointment to ensure all information is current.
  • Completes patient intake at each appointment, ensuring all information is gathered and entered correctly.
  • Obtains signatures on dental consents for N20, RCT, EXT, crown, dentures/partial or any other consent needed for treatment.
  • Maintains the dental lab work area and completes lab work from start to finish, including pouring models, completing lab work orders, ensuring cases are sent to the proper laboratory, and following up with patients’ next appointments.
  • Tracks lab items to ensure items are returned from outside labs in a timely manner and are scheduled, or items that have a step to accomplish in the internal lab are completed so the patient may be scheduled for the next visit.
  • Reviews treatment plans and fees for lab work, and discusses estimated costs with patients.
  • Processes and develops clear diagnostic radiographs.
  • Charts existing restorations on all new patients and updates watches, treatments, and dental charting for combined and periodic exams, including updating provider information as needed.
  • Informs the dentist of notable items, events, or changes to the patient’s oral health, medication list, or medical history.
  • Accurately documents and creates treatment plans and discusses treatment and cost with the patient or parent/guardian.
  • Following a child’s appointment, guides the child to the parent and reviews the procedure and any remaining needed treatment.
  • Ensures the front desk has follow‑up information so the correct appointment is scheduled for the next visit.
  • Ensures the correct ICD‑10 codes are entered into the dental superbill before walking the patient to the front desk.
  • Accurately adds ICD‑10 codes into Open Dental to match the dental superbill.
  • Accurately creates and documents all information pertaining to the appointment in office software, including pain level and smoking status, with minimal corrections.
  • Completes all dental notes in Open Dental before leaving each day to allow the provider to review and sign in a timely manner.
  • Maintains a high level of infection control through appropriate use of barriers, clothing, and sterilization policies to avoid cross‑contamination.
  • Ensures patient visit setup—including appropriate instruments, air/water syringe, suction, infection control barriers—is complete before seating the patient.
  • Maintains full components and supplies in operatories at all times.
  • Safely and efficiently operates equipment and devices, including radiographic equipment, autoclave, ultrasonic, lathe, curing lights, suction devices, hand pieces, vacuum, operatory units, nitrous/oxygen portable unit, and reports any issues promptly.
  • Ensures a full component of supplies is maintained in the clinic/operatories and notifies the office manager of any additional or new needs.
  • Collaborates with dental staff, watches all chairs, assists with room turnover, intake completion, and x‑ray tasks.
  • Wears a radiation badge at all times and updates it monthly using Instadose reading on an iPad.
  • Creates referrals per provider instruction and ensures insurance acceptance; takes all required and current x‑rays.
  • Ensures all clearance letters, pre‑medication, or other documentation are in patients’ charts and documented appropriately in Open Dental before appointments.
  • Completes all follow‑up calls to patients, other clinics, or medical providers in a timely manner and documents them.
  • Willingly travels to other dental locations to fill in, assist, or attend meetings.
  • Utilizes downtime to assist others or stay occupied with additional tasks.
  • Attends and actively participates in morning huddles, monthly and annual trainings.
