Hardware & PCB Design Freelance Imola (ITALY)

Junior / Mid Electronics Engineer
Position Overview
We're looking for a freelance electronics engineer to support our team on hardware design and prototyping tasks.
You'll work with us on specific projects, actively contributing to the electronics side, from design through to layout and testing.
If electronics is your passion, you spend your evenings on KiCad, and you're comfortable working across digital and analog circuit design, we'd love to hear from you.
This is a flexible collaboration, perfect for freelancers who want to work on challenging, high-impact projects without a full-time commitment.
Key Responsibilities
01 Design analog and digital circuits from schematic to layout
02 Design complete PCBs using KiCad (preferred) or EasyEDA
03 Run basic simulations to verify functionality and stability of circuits
04 Apply DFM principles and design best practices to ensure high reliability standards
05 Collaborate with our in-house team throughout the entire project, from early calls to final testing and client delivery
06 Suggest improvements and design choices based on experience
07 Maintain clear and organized documentation for each hardware component
Nice to Have
+
Experience with embedded systems (e.g. STM
32, ESP
32)
+ Basic scripting or Python for automation and testing
+ Familiarity with firmware-hardware integration
+ Exposure to certification standards (EMC, CE, etc.)
+ Based in Emilia Romagna, Italy, or available in a European timezone

Compensation
This is a freelance position. Compensation is agreed based on the nature of each project, either hourly or milestone-based depending on scope and complexity. The indicative hourly rate ranges from 50 to 150 EUR/hr depending on experience and project type, and is always flexible and agreed together. We value experience and transparency: if you're a good fit, we'll find the right way to collaborate.
