Overview

The OpportunityReporting directly to the Programmer, Specialty Programs, this role is responsible for ensuring camp participants have a positive experience and for working in accordance with the Town of Caledon guidelines, practices and procedures on recreational programs and customer service excellence.
Responsibilities – Camp Coordinator, Inclusion Coordinator- Organize and assist staff in running a fun and effective summer camp program to provide appropriate, challenging, and fun camp activities for participants of all ages and abilities.
- Plan camp programming to include crafts, games and both large and small group activities.
- Ensure camp ratios are met at all times.
- Attend regular meetings with the Programmer, Camp Director and conduct weekly meetings with camp staff.
- Supervise and be accountable for camp participants; always ensure knowledge of participants’ location and address any behavioural issues according to the Behaviour Guidelines.
- Ensure a positive and rewarding experience for all camp participants and parents/guardians; responsible for daily interaction with parents/guardians and ensuring safe arrival/departure of participants.
- Coach and provide team leadership to all camp staff and volunteers.
- Perform daily administrative tasks including camp sign-in/out, attendance, camp preparation, etc., and complete Injury and Incident Reports as needed.
- Fill in for temporary staff shortages.
- Promote summer camp through advertising and school presentations.
- Assist with scheduling and staffing of additional camp activities, including rock wall, swimming, and special events and guests.
- Must come prepared daily to accompany participants into the pool.
- Assist the Camp Director to coordinate staff schedules.
- Coach and provide team leadership to all camp staff and volunteers.
- Perform additional duties and undertake special projects as assigned.
- Prepare and deliver Leadership in Training and Counsellor in Training programs.
- Develop and lead Inclusion Camp team; oversee delivery of program plans by staff including appropriate use of camp space and equipment based on the needs of the participants.
- Work directly with families to provide specific program plans and detailed participant profiles to meet the inclusion requirements of participants.
- Review participant profiles with staff to ensure a strong, confident understanding of the participants needs and behaviour and assist with problem solving.
- Ensure participant profiles are updated on the participants logbook and communication from the counsellor.
- Assist camp staff with any challenges or concerns and ensure proper documentation is completed.
The ideal candidate must meet the following skills & qualifications:
- Current certification in Standard First Aid with CPR level
C. - Certification in HIGH FIVE ® Principles of Healthy Child Development is an asset.
- Completion of a Leader in Training and/or Counselor in Training course with the Town of Caledon is an asset.
- Demonstrated customer service excellence that reflects Caledon’s quality standards: accurate, courteous, responsive, and easy to navigate.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to give, obtain and/or exchange routine information.
- Organizational skills with considerable attention to detail to avoid errors and ability to meet deadlines.
- Superior interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to make decisions involving routine tasks, within established procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise significant discretion and sensitivity involving regular access to confidential data.
- Experience working in a camp environment or with children would be an asset but not necessary; must work well with children and maintain professional relationships with parents/guardians.
