The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Manager, Parks and Natural Heritage this role is responsible for various park and landscape planning, research and process‑improvement projects. As the Student, Landscape Architect you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

  • Assist Environmental Planners and Landscape Architects implement the Town’s Strategy Plan priorities including:
  • Development of Landscape Guidelines
  • Development of a private Tree Bylaw
  • Assist with the development of Park Redevelopment Program
  • Assist with the review of development applications, Environmental Impact Studies, and other environmental reports/studies
  • Assist with developing communication material including web page designs and brochures
  • Compiling meeting agendas, minutes and other administrative tasks
  • Conducting site visits with staff
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a post‑secondary student working towards a degree or diploma in planning, geography, architecture, landscape architecture with urban design, healthy communities, environmental sustainability and natural heritage planning interests or equivalent and are returning to school in Winter of 2025.

The ideal candidate will have Minimum 1 year related experience in municipal setting and Knowledge of municipal planning including processes, legislation, parks planning, landscape design, urban design and natural heritage preservation. We are seeking an individual with superior customer service skills, a demonstrated ability to ability to make decisions involving routine tasks, within established procedures, and excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

The successful candidate will be required to work a flexible schedule.

Satisfactory proof of schooling or return to school, may be requested.
