Location: bolton

The Senior Designer is responsible for developing cost‑effective formwork, shoring, and scaffolding solutions, and preparing drawings (including material take‑offs) for both standard and advanced custom designs. This role involves attending meetings, building direct relationships with customers, and providing technical support throughout the design process. The Senior Designer is also expected to schedule work, provide training, lead design efforts, and review and approve the work of junior team members.

They are accountable for the quality of their own designs and may also oversee and take responsibility for the work of others on a project‑by‑project basis.

What you'll do on a typical day:
  • Design formwork, shoring, and scaffolding solutions for a range of construction and infrastructure projects, using PERI’s advanced systems when necessary.
  • Create or oversee the development of 2D and 3D general arrangement, assembly, and steel fabrication drawings.
  • Prepare detailed offer presentations for PERI customers.
  • Collaborate with PERI Technical Sales Consultants to deliver cost-effective solutions.
  • Interface directly with customers to understand project requirements.
  • Work with internal and external design professionals to ensure compliance with CSA, OHSA, and National/Provincial Building Codes.
  • Perform and document design calculations using in‑house and external structural analysis software to ensure safe and efficient designs.
  • Demonstrate advanced design skills and technical expertise.
  • Provide design concepts and guidance to Engineering Interns, Drafts people, and Designers.
  • Review and approve drawings and calculations from junior team members, and coordinate authentication as required.
  • Create or direct the creation of material lists, and check or delegate their verification.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering‑related documentation.
  • Contribute to work scheduling and task assignments to meet project deadlines and customer needs.
  • Follow drafting and engineering procedures per the Quality Management System and Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP).
  • Mentor and train junior team members, including Interns and Drafts people.
  • Conduct regular site visits and provide on‑site technical support.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
What you'll need to be successful:
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, or equivalent industry experience/education.
  • 5+ years of experience in structural engineering and construction.
  • 3+ years of AutoCAD experience.
  • 4+ years using structural analysis software.
  • Formwork design experience required; scaffolding design experience is an asset.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Strong understanding of structural and architectural drawings and construction sequencing.
  • Good knowledge of Canadian and Provincial Building Codes; familiarity with relevant European standards is an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of PERI products preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and French is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle required.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • High sense of urgency and ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to engage with customers and provide input on technical challenges.
  • Proven mentoring and leadership capabilities.
  • Quick learner who works well independently in fast‑paced environments.
  • Effective team player with strong decision‑making and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Advanced skills in AutoCAD (2D and 3D);
    Revit experience is an asset.
