Porcea Stone (and its sister brand STONEarch) is a Canadian leader in premium natural stone and outdoor porcelain products, supplying landscape architects, contractors, and dealers across North America. As a growing family‑owned business with strong brand equity and expanding operations, we’re now ready for our first fully dedicated Head of Finance — a hands‑on, analytical, operational finance leader who will function as the company’s most senior financial leader, building discipline, clarity, and structure across the organization.
This is not a big‑company finance leader role. This role is for someone who has personally built and owned the finance function inside a small or mid‑sized — often family‑run — business. Someone who knows how to turn complexity, growth, and under‑structured environments into scalable systems, clear dashboards, and real financial rigor.
About the RoleThe Head of Finance will serve as the company’s primary financial leader, with end‑to‑end responsibility for financial strategy, accounting, controls, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, banking relationships, and financial systems.
You’ll work with a lean team (internal and fractional resources) and act as both player and coach — rolling up your sleeves on execution while also driving long‑term financial direction.
You’ll partner closely with ownership, the CEO, and strategic advisors as we modernize systems, evaluate capital structure, build long‑term financial models, and support multi‑year growth initiatives.
Responsibilities- Build the finance function from the ground up.
- Partner with ownership on long‑term strategy, capital planning, and financial decision‑making.
- Translate 5–10 year business goals into clear financial roadmaps.
- Evaluate risks and opportunities with a capital‑preservation mindset.
- Personally develop advanced multi‑year, multi‑currency financial models.
- Lead annual budgeting, rolling forecasts, and cash planning.
- Upgrade reporting from Excel‑based outputs to dashboards and board‑ready KPIs.
- Provide clear visibility into margins, unit economics, inventory performance, and operational drivers.
- Own a disciplined ~7‑day month‑end close process.
- Establish accounting policies, internal controls, and financial governance.
- Oversee chart of accounts design, revenue and cost recognition, reconciliations, inventory accounting, tax compliance, and audit coordination.
- Manage and strengthen banking relationships.
- Optimize working capital, cash utilization, and liquidity planning.
- Negotiate debt facilities and financing terms.
- Ensure the company maintains the right capital structure to support growth.
- Act as the company’s primary finance leader with a small internal team and fractional partners.
- Serve as the main point of contact for accountants, auditors, bankers, and legal advisors.
- Balance hands‑on execution with strategic leadership.
- Navigate family‑business dynamics with professionalism and discretion.
- Introduce formal financial controls while respecting legacy practices.
- Align financial decisions with owner priorities around capital preservation, disciplined risk‑taking, and long‑term succession planning.
- Support initiatives such as real‑estate portfolio management, strategic acquisitions, product offering expansion, and other cross‑functional projects as needed.
- Experience as a CFO, VP Finance, or Head of Finance in a small or mid‑sized business, with full ownership of the finance function.
- Has been the first or solo finance leader in a reasonably sized organization.
- Strong accounting foundation (CPA helpful but not required); CFA preferred for analytical rigor.
- Deep experience in FP&A, budgeting, financial modeling, cash flow planning, and operational finance.
- Background in inventory‑heavy, Cap Ex‑heavy, manufacturing, or distribution businesses.
- Hands‑on experience with ERPs and financial systems; has led or supported implementations.
- Exceptional Excel and financial modeling skills.
- Highly collaborative, detail‑oriented, and comfortable bringing structure to under‑structured environments.
- Willing to work primarily in‑office in Bolton, with some hybrid flexibility.
Works both in‑office and remotely from home (hybrid).
