Processing Plant Artisan

Job Summary

The processing plant artisan’s key functions will be to ensure the optimal running of the pilot malting plant and micro-brewery. This includes reducing breakdowns, performing preventative maintenance, and operating various production areas and in-process checks in close collaboration with the processing plant operator.

• Operate the process area according to the work instructions and adhere to usage standards (operation of micro-brewery & pilot malting plant).
• Carry out the required quality checks as described in the quality control and analysis work practice (in-process analyses & brewery quality analyses).
• Record waste on the appropriate documentation or information systems and review waste trends to identify problems or opportunities in a timely manner.
• Constantly review process performance against target and complete all short interval control documentation.
• Respond rapidly to upstream or downstream triggers that result in stoppages.
• Apply appropriate problem solving approaches as detailed in the problem-solving work practice.
• Perform housekeeping tasks, apply 5S principles and follow safe work practices; identify and correct unsafe work practices.
• Assist fellow team members in the execution of their tasks.
• Carry out routine maintenance activities according to the maintenance schedule and take part in maintenance and cleaning days.
• Monitor trends when conducting routine maintenance.
• Where production does not meet quality standards the process artisan must try to identify and resolve problems using the appropriate techniques.
• Use run/control charts and trend analysis to identify sources of waste and variation in the process.

Demonstrated and proven technical knowledge of electrical standards and be able to read electrical schematic drawings.

• Minimum N4 Electrical/Millwright Trade test qualification in Electrical/ millwright.
• PC literacy.
• Valid driver's license.
• Malting and brewing experience would be an advantage but not required.
• Prior experience in a Process Control Environment would be an advantage but not required.

Position is based at AB-InBev Agriculture Research and Development center +/- 15km from Caledon.
