THE ROLE
Reporting to the Senior Coordinator, Forestry, this position implements forest restoration and management projects on conservation area, municipal, and private lands to help meet the objectives of CVC’s Strategic Plan and Sustainable Forest Management Plan. Duties include supervising and leading field crews in the collection of forest inventory and monitoring data, site preparation and tending activities for tree planting and harvest operations, invasive species control, tree planting, and tree cutting/harvesting.
Duties may also include tree marking, harvest monitoring, entering and compiling data in databases, writing summary reports, and maintaining equipment. This position liaises with partners and collaborates with other CVC teams, including marketing and communications, for forest management activities occurring on CVC lands.
This position is based out of the Warwick Conservation Centre in Caledon.
QUALIFICATIONS Education- Post‑secondary degree or diploma in forestry, ecology/biology, environmental science, restoration or natural resource management
- Pesticide Applicators License with Forestry certification
- Valid First Aid and CPR
- Class A Restricted or above considered an asset
- Chainsaw certification and operating experience considered an asset
- 1 to 2 years of relevant work experience in forestry and restoration field work, including tree planting, site preparation, tending, vegetation/invasive species management, effectiveness monitoring, and tree cutting
- Experience with the safe hauling, loading, and unloading of trucks and trailers
- Experience with the safe operation of chainsaws, farm tractors, farm implements, mechanical reforestation planters, tank sprayers, pesticide application, ATVs and landscape maintenance equipment
- Experience providing customer service to clients for technical guidance, recommendations, project design and implementation
- Experience with data entry and preparation of draft reports
- A background and understanding of forest restoration and management, mensuration, ecological principles, and forest management and stewardship issues in southern Ontario
