Location: Bolton
Permanent position for a professional truck driver with extensive long‑haul experience, operating both straight and articulated trucks across international routes. The role requires a high degree of responsibility for vehicle maintenance, cargo safety, and regulatory compliance, as well as a strong commitment to customer service and teamwork.
Responsibilities- Address customer complaints or concerns and provide professional customer service.
- Coach colleagues on recent methods or work techniques and maintain safety and security of cargo.
- Arrange travel itineraries, make reservations, and coordinate logistics for cross‑border trips.
- Drive as part of a two‑person team or convoy, loading and unloading goods.
- Obtain special permits and other documentation required to transport cargo on international routes.
- Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials.
- Oversee vehicle condition and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment.
- Pay and receive payments for goods and perform brake adjustments.
- Conduct emergency roadside repairs and perform pre‑trip, en route and post‑trip inspections.
- Perform preventive maintenance and relay information to central dispatch.
- Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption.
- Carry out tarp and safety procedures to protect cargo.
- Handle dangerous goods in accordance with all safety regulations.
- Maintain manufacturer’s documents, accident or incident reports, bill of lading, driver logbook, inspection reports, maintenance and repair reports, trans‑border documentation, and trip reports.
- Use GPS and other navigation equipment and maintain communication systems.
- Perform required drug tests, driver’s licence validity checks, driving record checks, and security and safety checks.
- Travel internationally for extended periods, overnight, and cross‑border as required.
- Manage travel expenses paid by the employer and handle tolls and parking fees.
- Ensure physical readiness for handling heavy loads, sitting for long periods, and performing repetitive tasks.
- Minimum of 7 months to less than 1 year of professional trucking experience.
- AZ class licence and all relevant certifications, licences, memberships, and courses.
- Documentation knowledge of accident or incident reporting, bill of lading, dangerous goods occurrence reports, driver logbook, inspection report, maintenance and repair reports, and trans‑border documentation.
- Experience operating GPS and other navigation equipment.
- Local, long‑haul and short‑haul transportation/travel experience.
- Strong written communication skills and ability to record details accurately.
- Excellent organisation, judgement, reliability, teamwork, flexibility, and attention to detail.
- Physically capable of managing heavy loads and repetitive tasks for a large workload.
