Teacher- Alternative Provision

Key Responsibilities

• Teaching, Learning and Curriculum
  • Deliver a broad and balanced primary curriculum including:
    • English (phonics, reading and writing)
    • Mathematics
    • Science
    • Humanities
    • Computing
    • PSHE
  • Create a calm, structured and engaging learning environment.
  • Develop and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Embed communication, social interaction and independence skills throughout the school day.
  • Support the development of life skills, emotional literacy and positive relationships.
• Assessment and Progress
  • Monitor and assess academic, social‑emotional and developmental progress.
  • Use assessment data to identify barriers to learning and inform next steps.
  • Maintain accurate records of progress, behaviour and achievement.
  • Contribute to EHCP reviews and annual review meetings.
  • Build positive partnerships with parents and carers to support pupil success.
• Behaviour, Wellbeing and Safeguarding
  • Foster a safe, nurturing and trauma‑informed classroom culture.
  • Implement positive behaviour support strategies and regulation approaches.
  • Support pupils to develop self‑regulation, resilience and emotional wellbeing.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and promote pupil welfare at all times.
• Teamwork and Professional Development
  • Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, therapists and external professionals.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary planning and integrated support programmes.
  • Attend CPD, staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Share best practice and contribute to the continuous improvement of the provision.

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or PCGE 14+ qualifications.
• Degree qualification.
• Strong classroom practice and a commitment to inclusive education.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils who may have experienced challenges in education.
• Excellent communication, organisation and teamwork skills.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

• Experience teaching pupils with SEMH, SEND or additional needs.
• Alternative Provision, PRU or Special School experience.
• Trauma‑informed or nurture‑based practice.
• Positive Behaviour Support approaches.
• Phonics intervention and literacy support.
• Experience supporting communication needs, including AAC or visual communication systems.
• Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD and complex needs.

Salary is paid to scale and will depend on your skills and experience. The role is permanent.
