Science Teacher (SEN – Autism Provision)
Location: Bolton
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £33,483 to £45,352
Are you a passionate Science specialist with experience supporting autistic pupils? This is an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated specialist provision delivering high-quality, autism-informed teaching to KS3 learners.
About the RoleWe are seeking a KS3 Science Teacher to deliver engaging, accessible and well-adapted Science lessons to pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated needs. Working in small classes, you will use evidence-based, autism-informed approaches to support pupils’ communication, emotional regulation, independence and overall wellbeing.
You will play a key role in shaping an ambitious, well-sequenced Science curriculum that meets individual needs while promoting curiosity, confidence and meaningful progress.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, deliver and assess high-quality, adapted Science lessons for KS3 pupils.
- Adapt the curriculum to meet a wide range of needs within an autism-specialist setting.
- Use autism-informed strategies including visual supports, structured teaching, predictable routines and sensory/regulation approaches.
- Create a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.
- Ensure learning is accessible, engaging, relevant and appropriately challenging.
- Track progress in both subject learning and EHCP outcomes, providing clear feedback to pupils and families.
- Support pupils’ communication, emotional regulation, independence and engagement in school life.
- Implement positive behaviour and regulation strategies aligned with an autism-informed approach.
- Contribute to annual reviews, reports, target setting and multi-disciplinary planning.
- Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, pastoral staff and wider teams.
- Contribute to curriculum development, resource creation, assessment approaches and moderation.
- Engage fully in CPD, reflective practice and ongoing training related to autism and SEND.
- Uphold safeguarding, school policies and the Teachers’ Standards.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Strong subject knowledge in Science.
- Experience teaching KS3 pupils.
- Significant experience supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ideally in a specialist or SEND setting.
