Job Description & How to Apply Below

The School of Health, Science & Society at the University of Greater Manchester are looking for an inspirational and innovative Interprofessional Education (IPE) Lead to provide strategic and academic leadership for the development of our interprofessional education offer across the School of Health.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced health professions educator, clinical academic or IPE specialist who is passionate about preparing the next generation of health and care professionals to work collaboratively, confidently and effectively across professional boundaries.

As IPE Lead, you will play a key role in shaping and implementing the University's developing approach to interprofessional education. You will work across a broad portfolio of health and care disciplines, bringing together academic teams, students, practitioners, service users and external partners to create meaningful and authentic opportunities for interprofessional learning.

The health and care workforce is changing. Increasingly complex patient and service-user needs, integrated models of care and evolving professional roles require graduates who understand not only their own profession, but how to work effectively with others.

We want our students to graduate as confident, collaborative practitioners who understand the value that different professions bring to patient and service-user care.

You will therefore have the opportunity to shape IPE within a large school, rather than simply delivering an established programme. You will help us develop an ambitious, evidence-informed and sustainable IPE model that is embedded across our undergraduate and postgraduate provision.

This is a role for someone who wants to make a genuine difference.

The role

Reporting to the Executive Head of School, you will provide specialist leadership for the development, delivery and evaluation of IPE across the School of Health.

You will:

  • Develop and implement an ambitious School-wide IPE strategy, aligned with institutional priorities, block delivery and the future needs of the health and care workforce.
  • Lead the development of innovative, evidence-informed IPE curricula and learning experiences across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
  • Work collaboratively with academic teams across nursing, allied health professions, public health, clinical and medical associate professions, sport and science, health and social care and related disciplines.
  • Build a culture in which interprofessional learning and collaborative practice are embedded within the student experience, rather than viewed as isolated educational events.
  • Lead the development of staff capability in IPE through workshops, development programmes and communities of practice.
  • Alongside our Simulation lead and team, develop innovative simulation, experiential and authentic learning opportunities that enable students to work effectively across professional boundaries.
  • Use contemporary IPE evidence, educational theory and evaluation methodologies to continuously enhance provision.
  • Lead evaluation and quality enhancement activity, demonstrating the impact of IPE on student learning, professional development and collaborative practice.
  • Develop strong partnerships with healthcare providers, professional organisations, service users, carers and other external stakeholders.
  • Represent the University nationally and internationally through professional networks, conferences and IPE communities.
  • Contribute to and develop educational scholarship and research in IPE and collaborative practice.
About you

We are looking for someone with significant experience and specialist knowledge of interprofessional education who can bring credibility, energy and vision to this developing area.

You will ideally be a registered healthcare professional with substantial experience of health professions education and a postgraduate qualification in education, health or a related discipline.

You will bring:

  • Comprehensive and current knowledge of IPE theory, evidence and contemporary pedagogical approaches.
  • Experience of designing, delivering and evaluating IPE across different professional groups and educational levels.
  • A strong understanding of interprofessional collaborative practice and the contribution of IPE to the future health and care workforce.
  • Knowledge of curriculum design, assessment and educational evaluation.
  • Understanding of professional identity, professional boundaries, power, hierarchy, team dynamics and their influence on…
