Design Engineer (3D Design)

Company Overview
We are supporting a business specialising in the sub-contract sheet-metal industry who are on the lookout for a Design Engineer to join their team. This role is ideal for someone with experience in design, sheet-metal fabrication, and 3D CAD software (Solid Works or Inventor).
Main Purpose of the Role
The Design Engineer will be responsible for creating, developing, and reviewing engineering drawings, preparing documentation for quotations, and supporting production and customer requirements. The role requires strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
• Create and develop detailed 3D drawings using Solid Works (or Inventor).
• Conduct pre-production drawing reviews to ensure accuracy and manufacturability.
• Prepare drawing files for quotations and tender submissions.
• Maintain good document control systems and part numbering protocols.
• Liaise with the General Manager to ensure projects are delivered smoothly and on time.
• Work closely with customers to understand and clarify drawing specifications.
• Apply a sound understanding of manufacturing processes, construction methods, and material properties.
• Utilise knowledge of MRP/ERP systems to support design and production processes.
• Apply sound engineering design principles to deliver practical, manufacturable solutions.
• Ensure timely completion of tasks, meeting deadlines and managing workload efficiently.
• Maintain effective communication with team members and stakeholders.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
• Proficient in 3D CAD software (Solid Works or Inventor).
• Strong background in engineering design and technical drawing.
• Experience working in a professional office environment.
• Good understanding of manufacturing processes and materials.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
• Degree-qualified in a relevant discipline.
• Health & Safety experience.
• Experience with time management in a project environment.
• Full UK Driving License.
Aptitudes & Skills
• Professional and confidential approach to work.
• Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills.
• Strong document control practices.
• Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
• Excellent verbal, written communication, and presentation skills.
• Strong IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
• Ability to work independently and use initiative.
• Adaptable to a fast-changing environment.
• Team-oriented and able to cooperate with colleagues to improve processes.
