Overview
Join the Severfield Commercial & Industrial Division as an Estimator. The role is largely based at the Lostock office with flexibility to work from Dalton, Mansfield, or London for the right candidate. On Mondays, regular attendance at Lostock supports team collaboration and tender coordination.
Responsibilities- Produce accurate, competitive cost estimates and support tender preparation for a wide range of structural steel projects.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications and 3D models to prepare detailed take‑offs for steel packages.
- Assess material requirements, labour, fabrication and installation methods, and evaluate subcontractor quotations for bought‑out items.
- Collaborate with Senior Estimators, design, production and project management teams to ensure estimates reflect current market conditions, fabrication processes, labour rates and industry standards.
- Support the handover process post‑tender award, ensuring continuity from bid stage to project delivery.
- Regularly liaise with clients, contractors, engineers and suppliers to clarify scope, resolve queries and aid pre‑ and post‑tender meetings.
- Strong interest in construction and structural steelwork, with awareness of fabrication and structural form.
- Excellent numerical, analytical and organisational skills.
- Ability to interpret general arrangement drawings, detail drawings and 3D models.
- Comfortable working to tight deadlines, managing large volumes of information and making decisions with incomplete data.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.
- Positive, collaborative approach and willingness to learn and develop.
- Background in engineering, construction or related technical discipline preferred; relevant industry experience considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
