Technical Officer – Pollution Control
We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic Technical Officer to join our busy Pollution Control team at Bolton Council. As part of a friendly and supportive team you will carry out a wide range of duties related to pollution control matters, including nuisance, contaminated land, and licensing consultations. You will manage cases from advice and guidance, through to the serving of notices and enforcement action, dealing with a diverse range of customers.
Work will be reactive to complaints and requests and proactive in assessing the environmental impacts of planning applications.
- Provide expert advice on pollution control matters.
- Prepare and serve notices and carry out enforcement actions as required.
- Respond to licensing consultations and support planning applications.
- Maintain excellent communication and customer care standards.
- Use sound decision‑making to achieve compliance.
The Pollution Control team is part of Regulatory Services, which covers statutory functions such as food, health and safety, licensing, education and enforcement, pest control and trading standards. The role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and experience while managing and completing your own workload, setting deadlines and supporting colleagues when needed.
About You- Can cope with a demanding workload and manage your own priorities while working as part of a team.
- Communicates clearly and frequently with a wide range of people.
- Accurately collects, records, evaluates and scrutinises data to underpin decisions.
- Has an awareness of information sources and demonstrable computer skills.
- Is flexible, willing to carry out other Regulatory Services functions from time to time and, where necessary, work outside core hours.
- Has a valid current driving licence.
