The post holder will be a key member of the Enhanced Midwifery Team providing vital support to women throughout the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal period. The job purpose is to provide direct and indirect care to mothers and babies under the supervision of a midwife, with a specific focus on supporting women with safeguarding concerns. This involves implementing care plans, performing routine checks, reporting issues, and working with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the safety and well‑being of vulnerable families.

The maternity support worker (MSW) will work as part of the team to support and develop the maternity service both in the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods. The post holder will work within the hospital and community setting. The MSW will be expected to work independently with individual women and their families and work within group settings to support the role of the Midwife, throughout pregnancy, intrapartum and the postnatal period.

As part of this role, the MSW will play a key role in supporting women with all aspects of infant feeding, being knowledgeable and supporting midwives and women with the UNICEF BFI principles. The MSW will also support delivery of health promotion events and programs. The post holder will be flexible and will be available to work weekends, evenings and night shifts according to the needs of the service.

The post holder is also required to keep themselves up to date with all aspects of mandatory training and undertake routine clerical duties to ensure the smooth running of the midwifery service.
