Senior IT Systems Administrator

Location: Bolton, Manchester

Salary: Negotiable depending on experience.

Our client We’re working with a progressive organisation based near Bolton, Greater Manchester, to recruit a Senior IT Systems Administrator who will take a hands‑on role in supporting, enhancing, and developing their IT infrastructure. You’ll be joining a close‑knit, collaborative team that’s passionate about doing things properly, balancing operational reliability with exciting project work and future‑focused improvements.

Position Overview: This role offers the autonomy to make meaningful changes, lead technical initiatives, and be part of a culture that values continuous improvement and clear communication.

Key Responsibilities:

• Keeping core infrastructure running smoothly and securely
• Leading system upgrades, patching, deployments, and documentation
• Enhancing disaster recovery and backup processes
• Supporting the development of new physical sites
• Acting as the senior escalation point for IT support issues
• Driving innovation and identifying opportunities for improvement
• Creating technical documentation and playbooks

• Windows Server
• VMware (vSphere/ESXi)
• Microsoft 365 & Intune
• Firewalls (e.g. Sophos, Fortinet, Cisco)
• VoIP systems
• Linux environments
• iSCSI storage solutions
• Backup systems (e.g. Veeam)
• Switching and routing (Cisco, HP, VLANs)
