As the sixth-largest insurance company in the world, we provide a wide range of services, including health, car, home, and business insurance. We support millions of customers worldwide, helping them navigate life's uncertainties with confidence.

AXA Commercial protects businesses, from multinationals to micro start-ups, giving them the confidence to thrive.

Job overview:

We're looking for a confident and knowledgeable Senior Commercial Claims Handler, responsible for managing a portfolio of complex employers' liability (EL) and public liability (PL) personal injury claims whilst acting as a coach and mentor to other team members to ensure a high level of competency is maintained across the department. You'll identify customer needs, manage expectations, and deliver exceptional service throughout the claims journey.

By making prompt, accurate decisions and collaborating with colleagues, you'll ensure claims are managed and settled efficiently and cost-effectively.

Key responsibilities:
  • Dealing mainly through brokers, you'll be proactively managing a portfolio of claims up to £100,000.
  • Carry out comprehensive investigations into policy and legal liability for all newly allocated, EL, PL and disease claims to successfully negotiate a cost effective and speedy resolution.
  • Use your thorough product knowledge along with advanced negotiation skills and tactics to make accurate and pragmatic policy and legal liability decisions.
  • Identify claims with significant potential and make the early and relevant Large Loss Unit (LLU) referrals and recognise the signs of a fraudulent claim and refer these to the relevant Fraud teams for further investigation.
  • Liaise confidently and tactfully with people over the phone.
  • Provide excellent customer service by taking a logical and measured approach to tasks.
  • Act as a senior referral point by resolving team queries, identify training needs, and consulting with the Team Leader where needed.
  • Provide training and coaching to help the team improve their skills and give feedback to support their development.
Work arrangements:

At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least two days a week (40%) away from home, moving to three days a week (60%) in the future. Away from home means attending the office, visiting clients or attending industry events.

We're also happy to consider flexible working arrangements, which you can discuss with Talent Acquisition.

Working hours & shift pattern:

You'll work full time, 35 hours per week over 5 days.

Your skills & experience:
  • Previous personal injury claims handling experience is essential (experience managing EL/PL and disease claims is preferred).
  • Sound negotiation skills and use of tactics in managing claims.
  • Detailed knowledge of the end-to-end claims process, with sound negotiation skills and use of tactics in managing claims.
  • A proactive approach to management of own caseload and a commitment to customer service.
  • Strong time management and workload organisation skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to make accurate and pragmatic policy and legal liability decisions.
  • Strong quantum assessment skills and working knowledge of litigation procedures.
  • Good understanding of the MOJ portal.
  • Coaching and mentoring experience.
