Director of Governance

We are delighted to announce an exciting opportunity to join the College as Director of Governance
.

This is a pivotal and senior role, accountable directly to the Board through the Chair. You will provide independent, high-quality advice on governance, constitutional, statutory, ethical and procedural matters, ensuring the Board and its Committees operate effectively, lawfully and in line with the College’s governing documents and relevant legislation.

You will play a key role in ensuring that corporate governance arrangements contribute meaningfully to the strategic development of the College and that the organisation becomes an exemplar of best practice in governance.

Key Requirements
  • Hold a Chartered Secretary (Chartered Governance Institute) or similar relevant specialist qualification(s)
  • Hold a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject
  • Have extensive and current knowledge of corporate governance
  • Have significant company secretarial experience within a complex and customer centric environment
  • Hold a qualification or an in-depth understanding of Freedom of Information, UK GDPR and current data protection legislation and best practice, set against the needs of a Board of Governors
Day-to-day Responsibilities
  • Advising the Board on governance legislation and procedural matters where necessary before, during and after meetings.
  • Providing leadership, advice, strategic and administrative support to the Board to ensure the proper and efficient conduct of business and to promote excellence in governance.
  • Advising members of the Board on the proper exercise of their statutory powers under relevant legislation that is applicable to the further and higher education sectors and subsequent revisions.
  • Acting as the first point of contact for governors with queries on procedural matters.
  • Being proactive in keeping abreast of current and emerging guidance and legislation and advising governors accordingly.
