The Role

This vacancy is for a permanent Team Manager of the Bolton Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) Hub, a statutory Adult Social Care service based at Rivington Mental Health Unit, Royal Bolton Hospital. The post is full-time (37 hours), graded Level K, with essential car user status.

The Team Manager provides operational leadership and line management for the weekday AMHP Hub, ensuring compliance with the Mental Health Act 1983, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Care Act 2014. The role is responsible for delivering a responsive, high-quality AMHP service, managing demand, overseeing rota arrangements, and ensuring effective coordination with partners and the Emergency Duty Team.

The postholder provides professional supervision and support to AMHPs, social workers and trainee AMHPs, oversees AMHP approval processes, and promotes continuous professional development. They lead quality assurance activity, including audits, policy development and the embedding of evidence-based, strengths-focused practice, while supporting staff wellbeing and safe practice.

The role includes responsibility for governance, safeguarding, risk management and performance monitoring. This involves ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, analysing performance data, responding to complaints and enquiries, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing National AMHP Standards locally.
The Team Manager works closely with health, police and other partner agencies, representing the local authority on mental health matters and contributing to local and regional forums. The post also supports workforce development through AMHP training, student placements, practice education and engagement with professional networks

About You

The successful candidate will be a qualified and registered social worker with Social Work England and must be currently approved as an AMHP. They will bring substantial experience of AMHP practice, alongside demonstrated leadership and management capability within complex, high pressure environments.

The role requires a detailed and up to date understanding of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, safeguarding frameworks and the wider mental health system, as well as proven experience in performance management, quality improvement, risk management and service development. Strong communication skills, professional credibility, the ability to influence across organisational boundaries and confidence in using data and digital systems are essential, as is the ability to lead teams through change while maintaining a strong focus on staff wellbeing, professional values and excellent outcomes for people who use services.

As Team Manager you will provide professional line management and professional leadership for the safe, effective and efficient delivery of the Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHP) service in accordance with professional standards across Trafford. Whilst reporting into the Head of Service for Mental Health, you will also be expected to work in collaboration with the broader leadership teams within Adult Social Care and partner agencies.
