SummaryThe Medical Assistant Instructor will be a part of the IET program for Adult Education and Literacy (AEL). The instructor will teach the Medical Assistant portion of the class.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Prepare course materials, such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
- Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, and papers.
- Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.
- Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction.
- Advise students on academic and vocational curricula and on career issues.
- Keep up-to-date technically and apply new knowledge to the position.
- Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
- Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintain them over time.
- Identifying the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by breaking down information or data into separate parts.
- Identifying the developmental needs of others and coaching, mentoring, and helping others to improve their knowledge and skills.
- Encouraging and building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among students and others.
- Instruct and evaluate students in DESE approved materials.
- Track student attendance.
- Implement and adhere to all school policies.
Directly supervises students in the IET Medical Assistant program.
Qualification RequirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. These requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Teaching and training experience is preferred.
EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCEA minimum of 7 years medical work experience with experience in Phlebotomy/EKG. Experience coordinating educational projects is recommended.
Language SkillsMust have the ability to tutor and teach language skills as necessary. Must have the ability to read, analyze, interpret and write AEL IET Medical Assistant Curriculum and other documents.
Mathematical SkillsMust have the ability to tutor and teach mathematical skills necessary to pass any licensing exam. Must have the ability to calculate and understand figures used in the medical field.
Reasoning AbilityMust have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Also, must have the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, and schedule form.
OtherSkills And Abilities
Must apply their knowledge of current research and theory in the Medical Assistant field. Must establish and maintain an effective working relationship with students, staff, tutors and the community. Must have the ability to communicate both in oral and written forms. Must be able to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Physical DemandsIn the performance of this role, the employee engages in a range of physical and interpersonal activities essential to the job. Regular duties require walking, sitting, speaking, and listening in dynamic environments. The employee may occasionally stand and reach with hands and arms, and must be able to lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds. Visual acuity is necessary, including close and distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The position involves continuous interaction with the public and demands flexibility to work irregular or extended hours. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well‑being, and productivity of others, often managing multiple demands from various individuals. Driving is also required as part of the job responsibilities.
