Day 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Night 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. – As Needed
Salary Range: $38.02 – $48.48 (scale includes a 20% PRN premium)
The position is responsible for care of families antepartum to postpartum and newborns. The role includes care during antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods, maternal stabilization, and routine neonatal care. The RN provides direct patient care and may perform other duties such as secretarial and housekeeping to support department efficiency.
Essential Functions- Patient Care and Assessment:
- Conduct initial and ongoing assessments of patients’ physical, psychosocial, environmental, and self‑care needs.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans based on assessments and multidisciplinary recommendations.
- Provide direct nursing care: medications, treatments, vital‑sign monitoring, assistance with activities of daily living.
- Educate patients and families on health conditions, treatment plans, discharge care, medication management, and preventive health.
- Coordinate discharge planning and care with other health‑care providers.
- Communication and
Collaboration:- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, social workers, and other professionals to develop comprehensive care plans.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and team members, ensuring clear understanding of status and plans.
- Provide organized shift reports for smooth continuity of care.
- Documentation and Quality Improvement:
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records in compliance with regulations and standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to therapeutic standards.
- Professional Development and Leadership:
- Continuously enhance nursing knowledge and skills through education and professional development.
- Assist in orientation and mentorship of new staff and supervise care provided by other nurses as needed.
- Responsibilities:
- Attend all required in‑services, meetings, and education sessions.
- Maintain all licensure/certification requirements and meet employee health requirements per OSHA, State, and hospital policies.
- Perform FBC RN responsibilities following orientation and skills checklist completion.
- Accept other duties to promote organizational goals.
- Maintain skill proficiency and demonstrate critical‑thinking skills to prioritize care.
- Recognize, intervene, and communicate concerning or emergent assessments.
- Communicate findings related to electronic fetal monitoring and sterile vaginal exams.
- Manage high‑alert medications appropriately.
- Education:
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing (required). Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of labor and delivery experience required.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated leadership, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge of professional nursing principles, practice, and ethics.
- Additional certifications preferred (CEN, CCRN, RNC‑OB, C‑EFM).
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Current RN license in the State of Iowa.
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Mandatory Reporter (adult and child) within 3 months of hire.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Provider Course (NRP).
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring education annually.
- Stabilization and Transport of the Neonate (STABLE).
- Physical Activity Requirements:
- Perform routine lifts up to 50 lbs, both hand and push/pull tasks, and varied body positions as the position requires.
- Frequent forward bending, rotational movements, and kneeling for short periods.
- Working Conditions: Clean, well‑lit, heated area with exposure to clinical elements. Shift schedule 12‑hour shifts, variable hours. Vision and hearing within normal limits required. Reasonable accommodation available.
- Ethics and Compliance: Follow hospital’s Ethics and Compliance Program and report any variances.
Performance includes lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, forward bending, rotation, and squatting as described. Activities vary from low (. . .) to high (. . .) loads with specified frequencies.
